At CBS News the long awaited "memogate" report is in and four people are out of a job. Is this one of the biggest scandals ever to hit American journalism? Did the report go far enough? And what about the recommendations made by the independent panel investigating the "60 Minutes Wednesday" story about President Bush's National Guard service? Our panelists will weigh in on those questions and much more! Then, in our "Quick Takes on the Media" segment: • What was the real reason for the massive media coverage of the South Asian tsunami? • Should a reaction to a mock "mooning" of fans by Minnesota Vikings' wide receiver Randy Moss (search) last Sunday get FOX Sports announcer Joe Buck (search) kicked out of the announce booth? • And is Jerry Springer (search) about to become the new liberal Limbaugh? These stories and more when we bring you another edition of FOX News Watch this weekend!

I used to like that show...now, I'm indifferent to it. Kind of like their entire weekend line-up. The news segments are tabloid anymore. Cal Thomas' show, and Ollie North's War Stories are about the only thing worth watching on FoxNews weekends any more.

"At Large" with: Geraldo is fun to watch and snear at. I was thinking of starting a live thread some time.

I don't like the Fox and Friends weekend hosts.

That Julian Phillips is such a snob.

No doubt that Fox has gotten a twinge of the "big media" momentum, and is not really doing what its original charter was. But that is OK, they certainly are not anywhere as bad as the MSM (God help us) and still look at both sides of many issues.

At the same time there is much room for a real CONSERVATIVE news outlet, that looks at both sides of issues, but clearly stands up for the conservative side of things. There is also a huge latent market (pent up) for a real conservative national-level newspaper and I mean a big one! Lots of competitive media opportunities out there especially with the MSM imploding. I don't think they realize it yet, protected by their utopian shell they live in.

I used to like that show...now, I'm indifferent to it.

I know what you mean; I kinda agree with you, but that's why I found THIS particular episode more enjoyable than usual.

Burns starts out with, "According to the BODY COUNT it may be the Biggest Journalism Scandal EVER: 4 people fired, 2 people demoted INCLUDING THE ANCHORMAN.

Then just a little bit later Jim Pinkerton says, "Well, let's talk about this panel a little bit, this former governor of Pennsylvania, this former executive of AP, who I believe were brought in to do a PARTIAL discovery and a PARTIAL COVERUP. I think they found interesting things about CBS's FIVE YEAR effort to nail Bush on this National Guard story. ... They were CLEARLY looking the other way at OBVIOUS tell-tale signs of bias and political partisanship."

So I had myself some grins and thought I'd pass it along.

There's not much to watch on Fox on weekends...the weekend Fox & Friends team is much inferior to the regular team. This Sunday evening (1/16) they are having a special about President Bush that may be worth watching.

The two conservatives on this show are pathetic.

Carl Thomas is a bore who mechanically trots out every right-wing cliche in the book.

Pinkerton is much smarter but is an extremely poor speaker. Sometimes the guy stammers and hems and haws so much I have no idea what he is trying to say.

The two liberals while wrong can at least talk and say interesting things.

You're right .. I have also come to that conclusion - except I even skip Cal. I was and still am upset with Cal's hit interview on John O'Neill. Cal has interviewed a lot of people, but I don't recall him ever having somebody there to counter what the interviewee was saying - except for John O'Neill - and the guy they had on to rebutt O'Neill was one of Kerry's goons - who lied about being in VN. That did it for me.

But this Sunday night - Brit will be doing a special on the President - right after Ollie North's program. 6pm/pst and 9pm/est.

The Panel was apparently directed to whitewash the scandal because if they had reached the same crystal-clear conclusion as everybody else - - that political bias was the reason that CBS used forged military documents to try to fix a national election - - then there would be no way for CBS to avoid a criminal investigation and no way for the Justice Department to look the other way.

The report was, in fact, carefully crafted to shield the network from further investigation (and prosecution). In too-clever-by-half fashion, all aspects of the report which did not deal with the forgeries and the political agenda were beefed up to make the report look "hard-hitting", "devastating", "crushing" etc. To add a nice touch, CBS then fired a few hapless underlings (while stammering through lame excuses for why they gave Rather and Heyward a pass) in order to further show everybody just how "serious" they were.

No wonder Heyward's promise of a full and thorough investigation and report in "weeks, not months" took nearly four months to produce - - there was a mountain of careful parsing and legal work involved in crafting this sneaky of a whitewash.

The report was carefully crafted to shield the network from further investigation
The report was crafted to strain at gnats. It is difficult to verify documents but it can be quite easy to impeach them. If a document is supposed to have been written in 1973 but it talks about Macintosh computers, it doesn't matter how clever the rest of it is, the document is a fraud. And there are smoking guns invalidating every one of those "documents."

The report strained at gnats to avoid declaring the documents bogus, for the purpose of avoiding the obvious conclusion that political bias caused CBS to use them to try to disgrace the president.

Did you see this?
It is, in my opinion, the best summary of the failure of "The Panel" and its report, by far:

The CBS Whitewash (The coverup continues)

caused CBS to use them to try to disgrace the president.

I prefer to use the phrase, "attempted to fix a national election".
The insidiousness of CBS cannot be overstated.

Your entire comment was very well said itself; I chose this one sentence to quote because it was one of my favorites.
