"I agree John Kerry does not belong in the Senate, however he isn't there illegally.

He never was a sworn enemy to the United States.

This is the kind of rhetoric that gets Free Republic labeled "right-wing extremists."

Get real!

Hanoi Kerry is and was a traitor to the US!

Guess you never read the FBI files on Hanoi Kerry.

AND if I'm a "right-wing extremist" so be it.

At least I know what the US Constitution says.

Why is Bush allowing this?

This soldier should be given a dishonorable discharge and the case closed. Let's move on to something important.

What kind of message would it send to the people of Iraq if he got a slap on the wrist instead?

He maybe but I'll ask again...

What does Kerry have to do with a thread on Graner and his court martial?

"Maybe it wasn't flattened liked you want, but what if this was a better way to do it?"

I'm not sure, how about you ask the parents of the Marines killed there, or the people beheaded in that city what they think about Bush's PATHETIC response to the burnings/hangings last April.

I'm saying that if we spend hundreds of billions of dollars on high tech equipment, let's use it.

Excellent.

By convicting Graner and giving him a meaningful sentence, we just showed the world why America is the leader of the free world.

We respect the rule of law and we apply our laws without prejudice.

While I agree that he is merely a fall guy and that there are higher-ups who need to be punished, it is still gratifying to know that he will be made to pay for his crimes.

"I was just following orders," is never an excuse.

Having served in the military, I know that everyone in uniform is taught to recognize the difference between a legal and an illegal order. Whether or not they pay attention to that training is of course, their choice.

Ignorance however, is no excuse.

Perhaps Graner's ten years in prison will serve as an object lesson for anyone else who thinks that they are above the law simply because they have donned the uniform of their country.

Those inmates were bad people, period. I'd rather have 100 Graners loose in my neighborhood than a single inmate from that wing of the prison.

People keep alleging these were the "worse of the worse" or whatever, but it's not true. It was a mix. By example, one of them (from the pyramid/forced masturbation) was merely accused of stealing a car, and later released on them having no evidence.

If you think FReepers are "right wing extremists," then you are a bona fide liberal! Sorry, kid, but you've been infected by "globalist" thinking, you know, those people who go around apologizing for the U.S. instead of being dam proud of this great country! We're patriots, not right wing extremists.

I should say, it's not altogether true (in part, it is - there were some much worse offenders).

I am also not "an islamfacists (sic) enabler."

OTOH,you're an ill-informed,incivil person,who needs to think,if at all possible,prior to posting such incoherent,spurious,libel.

But your nic suits you more than you realize...you're no Maxwell Smart;however, you very much need to get smart! ;^)

"What does Kerry have to do with a thread on Graner and his court martial?"

Just pointing out the double standard.

BTW Don't you think Hanoi Kerry had his bloody hands
in this whole thing since the start?

Read up on his phony winter soldier "testimony" in 71

The "Wicked Witch of Abu Ghraib" was already lawyered up and making the rounds on the talk shows before the "scandal" was even really that well known. She was crying about her innocence right from the get-go---

I hope she also pays---

I know you are sympathetic to the grunts, but isn't it in the code of conduct that a soldier can refuse an order if he KNOWS it is illegal or immoral or whatever?

"But that's not the point. Graner and his fool cohorts handed our enemies the world over a stunning propaganda victory; a Tet Offensive without the offensive."

No...your 1st amendment free press gave the islamofacists the "victory"...

Fraternizing with someone of a lower rank and knocking her up,ignoring superior officers' orders, punching a prisoner in the head,so hard that said prisoner left a bloody smear down a wall and was unconscious for a long time afterwards, and much else, which you and some others here are either totally ignorant of,or don't care about.

And. . . all of this was going on for some time without anyone in command knowing . . . in an intelligence unit!?

I must have missed something, but wasn't Abu Grab prison in Iraq? I am reading here that the main witness against Graner was from Syria. There are not any foreign fighters in Iraq, or at least that is what I hear on TV, so I am confused as to why a Syrian was testifying agaisnt Graner. And, of course, this article does not mention why. I sure wish the media would do their job and explain why a Syrian man was testifying?

It was dumb to take pictures of themselves abusing prisoners, but at least they didn't put up a web site to show the world (like the Muslims do when they behead innocent civilians).
