Floridas Indian River Community College (IRCC) is engaging in a campaign of repression against a Christian student group for attempting to show Mel Gibsons "The Passion of the Christ" on campus.
In November 2004, the college banned the Christian Student Fellowship (CSF) from showing the film because it was R-rated, despite the fact that the college has hosted a live performance entitled "F**king for Jesus" that describes simulated sex with "the risen Christ." CSF students report that after their group wrote President Edwin R. Massey in protest, administrators pulled group leaders out of class and, astoundingly, demanded an apology from them for their actions.
Now, CSF is even unable to officially meet because its adviser resigned after IRCC imposed a burdensome new policy requiring that faculty advisers attend all student group meetings.
"IRCCs assault on CSF must end immediately, declared David French, president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), which wrote to IRCC on behalf of CSF. "Not only has the college adopted a breathtaking double standard for expression, but it has also abused administrative power in the worst way.

If this article is even half true I am D**ned MAD. Who TF are these people to perpetrate this kind of Nazism on their students! I hope some legal group is preparing to crawl all over these Fascists a la ACLU. D**ned mad I tell you! (And I'm not particularly religious)
Not all community colleges are worth the money poured
into them. That's provable by the number of Universities that refuse to recognize "graduation certificates" or even credits granted by certain unaccredited schools. Additionally, certified teachers who obtain positions at
these questionable schools either don't stay long or
have to admit to themselves (and everyone else) that they
can't cut the mustard sufficiently to get hired at a
better school.
"Can you imagine this or any other school allowing a play on campus that featured simulated sex with Mohammed? Not only would the public not stand for it, school officials would risk being put on a list for execution. It's only Free Speech when Christians or Jews are attacked, otherwise, it's a hate crime."
THAT PLAY WOULD BE ILLEGAL BECAUSE THE ACTRESS HAVING SEX WITH MOHAMMED WOULD NEED TO BE 9 YEARS OLD.
This week Rush was talking about the inroads of conservatism breaking down liberal monopolies in places like the media.(I wish I had his exact words now.) Anyway, he said academia is next and then laughed. I sure hope so. Those jerks have had total brainwash control for too long.
Does anyone have that Rush quote? I don't have his 24/7 access.
"he(Rush) said academia is next and then laughed. I sure hope so. Those jerks have had total brainwash control for too long."
It's true. I can not believe how dumbed down our public schools have become. And how neurotic teachers have become due to the slow drip indoctrination of PC fear(communism in disguise) Some teachers in my area have told me how this has even created inside bickering and back stabbing among themselves. Hopefully some one or group can reform this crippling scenario and reverse the tide of oppression.
Florida East Coast nonsense ping request. I'm a bit surprised at this one. I thought Indian River County was comfortably red. Well, it is a college, the last bastion of the left.
LOL!
Just a little help here
**THAT PLAY WOULD BE ILLEGAL BECAUSE THE ACTRESS HAVING SEX WITH MOHAMMED WOULD NEED TO BE 9 YEARS OLD.**
Should read Actress or actors. Mohammed didnt discriminate between genders.
The source is WingNutDaily, if they got even 10% of the facts correct it would a huge improvement.
I went to that school in the late '70s. For the most part it was a good school. In fact, Massey (the President) was my Biology professor. He was a good instructor. I thought at the time he was the ambitious type. It seems he made it all the way up the totem pole. I totally disagree with the college's actions, I just wanted to interject my personal experiences.

LOL! I never can tell the difference between NewsMax, WingNutDaily and the grocery store checkout counter magazines that report seeing Elvis on a flying saucer.
If the local citizens get to work and start pressuring the politicians, this Community College president could be fired, as he deserves to be. His behavior is thoroughly stupid and irrational, and suggests that he is not competent to run an institution of higher, or even of moderate, learning.
Freaking unbelievable!
Maybe that old saying really is true; the one that says if you don't like the message you can always attack the messenger. I've seen this story in other news media and nothing here seems to be out of place or incorrect.
WingnutDailey is financed by someone who has a hard on for Bush. They always bash Bush and promote every wack job pundit who is anti-Bush.
