Ashlee Simpson is determined to stay optimistic about her career, despite being booed by 72,000 people at the Orange Bowl half-time show in Miami last week. Simpson tells MTV News, "There was some booing that went on after the half-time show was finished. If they didn't like the performance--and that's what it was about--then sorry to them."
The Oklahoma Sooners and the University of Southern California Trojans battled for the national college football championship at the Orange Bowl. Simpson speculated that it was the Oklahoma Sooners fans booing her because a film clip of her rooting for USC was shown before her performance.
Simpson says the Orange Bowl performance and her lip-synching mishap on Saturday Night Live a few months ago was a learning experience. She says, "I go from having a Number One album and things going great and all of a sudden SNL happens and boom! You're faced with how mean people can be and criticizing you and stuff...But I've learned a lot about myself. I'm still 20, and a new artist, and I will only grow."
Simpson kicks off her first concert tour on February 16 in Anaheim, California.
In related news, a New York City teenager is so fed up with Ashlee Simpson that she started a petition to put an end to the pop star's career. The online petition states, "We, the undersigned, are disgusted with Ashlee Simpson's horrible singing and hereby ask her to stop. Stop recording, touring, modeling and performing. We do not wish to see her again."
Bethany Decker, an 18-year-old from Staten Island, New York, tells LAUNCH that she started the petition a few days after Simpson was booed at the Orange Bowl. She says, "My friend, Steve, called up after her performance to tell me how bad it was so I went online and got a clip. After chatting with a lot of people that just really wanted to express their anger, I decided that a petition might actually do something."
Decker says that she and the many music fans who signed her petition feel that artists should land record deals based on their artistic merit. She says, "I guess I did it, mostly because I'm just sick of record companies deciding who is popular... We want people who have talent. People who can sing, and don't need their voices retouched for their CD. Artists whose CDs reflect how they actually sound."
The Stop Ashlee Simpson petition--which is available at petitiononline.com--has been signed by almost 5,000 people since it launched on January 6. The petition is addressed to Simpson's record label, Geffen/DGC Records and her management company, JT Simpson Entertainment.

The time has come where people are finally waking up the fact that decent music has been hijacked by lazy, greedy, music corporations promoting 'artists' via visual rather than aural means where talent is no longer a necessity nor even a requirement. Take Hip-hop for example, would any of these "artists" make it purely via the radio? I think not.

Jessica is okay. Ashlee is NOT and her preacher daddy-cum-music manager pimp is now out of his league.

"There was some booing that went on after the half-time show was finished." Some booing? The whole stadium - 80,000+ people - erupted with boos, in fact.
"If they didn't like the performance--and that's what it was about--then sorry to them."
No, they didn't like her performance. This chick takes myopia to a whole new level.
"But I've learned a lot about myself. I'm still 20, and a new artist, and I will only grow."
Oh, she'll grow alright. .....horizontally.

Good one!
I haven't heard her enough to know whether she can sing or not, but I feel sorry for anyone who gets booed by a whole stadium full of people. Sounds like she shouldn't have been there in the first place.

I loved Lisa Simpson, though Homer's Barbershop Quartet bit was a throwback to the Abbey Road sessions.
I have no clue who this Ashlee person is but she must be bad if the girl from Staten Island wants her career destroyed because of an angry phone call from her friend Steve. Makes sense.
And like her friend Steve called her after the Orange Bowl right. It's like my friend called me after Fox And friends and like talk to me you know? And like that's not cool. And her friend Steve like watched the halftime show and like told her he hated Ashlee Simpson so like I hate her too, you know. And like I don't live in Staten Island next to the world's largest garbage dump but like I know what this girl is like saying so like... I don't know...you know? And so I like started this really really really big petition that wants to destroy Ashlee too. It's on the website ashleesux.tv. I know like it competes with this girl's petition but like it's like like like you got to make a difference. You know?

I can't stand her stupid sister, but I can tolerate Ashlee. Some of her songs I find appealing, "Pieces of Me" and "Autobiography" I like. If I had the choice of which to drop off a building it would definitely be Jessica (and her husband).

I saw the game, but missed the halftime show. I don't relate to most of the artists they have on such shows, being almost as old as dirt myself, so I watch something else until the game starts back on.

Yeah, you're right, but no need to pick on this girl.
Leave her alone.
If you don't like her "music" don't buy it, don't watch the videos.
