Bogus presidents, unwinnable wars, and humiliating foreign policy, rabid homophobia, misogny, pseudo Christian agendas that seek to maul the keleidoscopic nature of the national spirit, these are issues and events we can access, things the media can report, that people can discuss with something resembling articluation.
Unless you're House Majority Leader Tom Delay, a charred and black little nub of a human who stood up at the White House Prayer Breakfast last week and read a passage from the Bible that would seem to blame the tsunami's victims for their own unspeakable fate, given how the majority of them were Muslim and of course believed in the wrong God and therefore got what they deserved.
And then he sat back down. And lightening , shockingly didn't strike him dead on the spot.
How could God let this happen? As if God was some sort of bearded and angry old puppeteer yanking strings and wreaking havoc across the world for mad inexplicable reasons while favoring Republicans, Evangelical Christians and war, a childish and simple minded kind of God conceptualized mostly by 5 year olds, Bush supporters and Mel Gibson.
Dont ask why God let this happen. Ask instead why the vibration of the world and treatement of the environment is so low and ugly and un-God like right now.
Many, I've read, see the tradegy as a wake up call for the universe, something meant to jar us out of our bitter insularity and maybe we can feel a few of the barriers normally seperating us break down, finally, at least for a while.
And in the end we realize that terror has nothing to do with angry Islamic fundamentalists or right wing Christian warmongers and everything to do with surviving this mad shocking circus to the next level, the next life, the next mystery.

Funny... Didn't Miss Morford say God directed the hurricanes at Florida? Or did he lose his faith when Florida voted for Bush.
Mark Morford is the woman I always go to first when I need a theological discussion.
First, anyone who would use "shockingly" as an adverb in that context needs to be savagely beaten with a thesaurus. Second: I would suppose that lightening might be a synonym for enlightening, and further recognize that the means of someone like Morford being enlightened probably would be a lightning zap.
Hate's a passionate emotion, so OF COURSE leftists are "passionate". So are homocide bombers. Big deal. There's no need to attribute more emotional depth to the left than they have. The lake of venomous of venomous bile manifesting itself as yet another piece of editorial wisdom from the elite left is proof that if progressives were any shallower, their emotional depth would have a measurable height

Someone please refresh my memory on just how WE - asked, brought upon, invited, deserved, and just all around, somehow, started this War On Terror? to have IT delivered to us? That it is somehow just & fair to suffer such Non-combatant, Civilian Casualties?........... WE are the Warmongers???
