Kobe-less Lakers still beat LeBron, Cavs

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Lakers star Kobe Bryant sustained what the team called a severely sprained right ankle midway through the first quarter of Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and had to be helped off the court.

X-rays were negative, but Bryant will have an MRI on Friday, team spokesman John Black said.

Bryant, the NBA's second-leading scorer with a 28.2-point average, was injured when he landed on Ira Newble's right foot while going for a rebound under the Cavaliers' basket. Newble was called for a foul on the play.

Bryant immediately grabbed his ankle before teammate Brian Grant and trainer Gary Vitti helped him off the court and into the Staples Center tunnel, where Grant and injured Los Angeles forward Devean George carried him into the locker room.

Bryant left with 5:39 left in the first period and the game tied at 15. He had two points and three assists.

LA Lakers 98, Cleveland 94

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Lakers won without Kobe Bryant, and it might be quite a while before they'll get their next chance to win with him.

Bryant sustained a severely sprained right ankle and had to be helped off the court early in a 98-94 victory over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night.

``I'm guessing it might be weeks, it just doesn't feel like a day-to-day thing,'' Bryant said afterward when asked how long he thinks he'll be sidelined.

``It hurts, it hurts a lot,'' Bryant said. ``It's the worst one I've had -- I am in a lot of pain right now. I am just trying to stay off of it right now.''

On crutches with his ankle wrapped, Bryant said he felt ``crunching and instant throbbing'' when he went down.

X-rays were negative, but Bryant will have an MRI on Friday.

"Bryant said he felt ``crunching and instant throbbing'' when he went down."

Yep. I'll bet he did.

You've seen the future of the NBA.

I've given up on the present of the NBA. I'll never see the future of the NBA.

Maybe he'll have to travel to get medical treatment. I bet he'll bring his minders along this time!

If you've seen ESPN "Streetball", You've seen the future of the NBA.

I have seen some of that. Almost-all-African-American-Gangster-rap-backetball-with-a-screaming-announcer. It's fun to watch for a bit.

The "kinda" token white kid, I think they call him "The Professor" stands out in that crowd.

I just don't like all the thugs in the game. Damn Dennis Rodman started a lot of the silliness. Back when I used to drink a bit I partied with Rodman once. He is crazy.

Today's professional basketball is like rap music. My problem is that I don't think rap is music.

"I've given up on the present of the NBA. I'll never see the future of the NBA."

Yeah, it's not a very good product. And, after the Olympics, the NBA shouldn't even call their champion the world champion. The Europeans showed us that the old style, (see Boston Celtics), team game will beat a bunch of great athletes playing for themselves.
A second rate product played by thugs.
Nice.

How many steps is an offensive player allowed now when going in for a layup? That bottom pic of yours looks like there should be a traveling call. No dribble, pivot foot up, next foot being planted...

Its too bad there arent more players like Shequille Oneil .

Players like Rodman and Bryant give the game a bad name.

Maybe the NBA should make it mandatory that when these players get a million dollar contract , they take a course in Etiquette and common decency, Kinda like us white folks have to take those BS courses in Racial sensitivity.

The Argentenian Olympic basketball team beating the NBA "dream team" pretty much shows where the NBA has got their head.
