The article is not saying that they contracted genital herpes. They contracted the Herpes virus that causes cold sores. This is not a sexual issue.

There’s something being covered up in this article. I restates 3-4 times that they probably got it a Fresno tournament, but as far as I can see it never says what part of the body they got it on or if anyone’s doctor’s claiming that it was spread by the wrestling.

oral herpes

I don't see what the big deal is? That's a totally different animal than sexually contracted herpes. Lots of children get oral herpes from time to time. But, I'll remember to not to let my child wrestle.

Judging by your post, there will be a lot of (IMHO) inapproriate humor over this.

But those poor kids; this is a raw deal.

I live here in the area where the outbreak took place and know a couple of the kids who got infected. They are talking about the oral form of herpes not the STD form.

Mat has herpes?  I knew Mat the wrestler in highschool.  Real weirdo that kid was.  Know what he told me?  That when he was in danger of getting pinned, he'd reach around and "give the other guy's nuggets a stroke" and the guy would always release him.  Why would he tell me something like that?

Well, Mat has herepes.  I guess it's better than what we'd always say:  "Mat has AIDS".

All the wrestlers I ever knew have had a drooling problem too.

I once got a rash on my leg which I swear was from Bally's gym mat.....I wrote them an email and asked them to get the scummy things cleaned.

Herpes gladiatorum (wrestler's Herpes) has been around forever. This is nothing new. There are rules and guidelines in all wrestling programs that deal with herpes gladiatorum and the prevention of spreading the disease.
