In the wee hours of June 17, 1972, G. Gordon Liddy slipped into his bedroom and undressed quietly in the dark, hoping not to wake his wife, Frances.
"Is that you?" Frances asked, as Liddy would recall years later in his autobiography, Will.
"Yes."
". . . Anything wrong?"
"There was trouble. Some people got caught. I'll probably go to jail."
Liddy was right. He wound up serving 52 months in prison -- longer than anyone else involved -- for his role in orchestrating the break-in of the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate Hotel that ultimately brought down a presidency when Richard Nixon tried to cover up his knowledge of it.
But a life of crime is not without its rewards. Of all the president's men, none has capitalized on his Watergate experience as skillfully, zealously and shamelessly as George Gordon Battle Liddy.

What life of crime? As far as we know this may have been the only illegal thing he ever did.
The reason he spent more time than anyone was because he kept his mouth shut. If I had top pick someone on my side I would pick Liddy. If his son has half the courage his father has I would vote for him.
Ollie North and G. Gordon Liddy are two men I have a great deal of rerspect for, both did what they had to do, didnt cry about getting caught, Didnt try to lay the blame on anyone else, They took the bullet like men.
The clown who wrote this probably loves Web Hubbell and Susan McDougal. They too took the bullet. I cant stand Clinton , but these two at least took the bullet for him.

If young Liddy is half the man his father is I fervently hope and pray that he wins. We need "a few good men" and such men are hard to find

Damn straight. Liddy was THE first to point out that Clinton was a sociopath before Clinton was even elected to a first term, and Liddy was proven right year after year after year the entire 8 years Clinton was in office, and he is proven right even to this day.

I had dinner with him once many years ago. I was invited by a business acquaintance to a quasi-family dinner attended by Liddy. I don't recall how Liddy was related. My acquaintance was embarassed by Liddy and spent some time after the meal apologizing for Liddy's presence. I told him I thought Liddy was by far the most interesting person in the room. Struck me as a smart, stand-up guy that doesn't BS. The business relationship didn't last long after that.
Tell me about it. Rememeber all the press conferences about investigating all this stuff? All talk then it was all brushed under the rug and forgotten.

Can anyone confirm the following story?
Liddy's in front of some panel - congress is my recollection - and is asked, "Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?"
Liddy answers, "No."
I've been telling this bit for years and have always wondered if it's true.
