Indeed. RIP I loved the Airplane.
Rock and Roll PING! email Weegee to get on/off this list (or grab it yourself to PING the rest)
Indeed. Quite the resume' he had. I listened to all those bands, QMS, New Riders, and I have "The Best of Moby Grape" double disc, which I listen to quite often, along with "Surrealistic Pillow" when I'm in the mood.
I know...I'm older now, but the music today does nothing for me. I'm a fading picture it seems. It's OK...I think I'll go listen to Pillow now, followed up by a heavy dose of CREAM.
FMCDH(BITS)
Saw a thing recently by Jorma who said he had visited or chatted with Spencer and that Spencer was not well but they had had a good talk.
And just FWIW - so he had an affair with Grace Slick... seems like in the future it would be newsworthy only to mention someone if they had *not* had an affair with Grace Slick.
Rest In Peace
"Big Brother and the Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Country Joe and the Fish."
What a blast from the past. I remember all of them.
(i'm gettin old)
I'm glad he's at rest and so sad to hear of all of his troubles.
"Surrealistic Pillow" was the first rock album I ever bought. I guess that dates me.
Remember: "feed your head."
The summer had inhaled
And held its breath too long
The winter looked the same
As if it never had gone
And through an open window
Where no curtain hung
I saw you, I saw you
Comin' back to me
One begins to read between
The pages of a look
The shape of sleepy music
And suddenly you're hooked
Through the rain upon the trees
The kisses on the run
I saw you, I saw you
Comin' back to me
You came to stay and live my way
Scatter my love like leaves in the wind
You always say you won't go away
But I know what it always has been
It always has been
A transparent dream
Beneath an occasional sigh
Most of the time
I just let it go by
Now I wish it hadn't begun
I saw you, yes, I saw you
Comin' back to me
Strolling the hills
Overlooking the shore
I realize I've been here before
The shadow in the mist
Could have been anyone
I saw you, I saw you
Comin' back to me
Small things like reasons
Are put in a jar
Whatever happened to wishes
Wished on a star?
Was it just something
That I made up for fun?
I saw you, I saw you
Comin' back to me
RIP bump
One thing they sang about is now coming to pass-Counterrevolution, Counterrevolution!
"...was in the middle of two hip replacement surgeries and was facing heart surgery at the time. His Petaluma home and all his possessions had been destroyed in a fire in September 2003. He also had been diagnosed with stomach cancer."
He answered to the nickname "Lucky."
Maybe you have to be a woman to appreciate it, but IMO, "Miracles" is one of the best love songs ever written. The emotion in Marty Balin's voice and Grace Slick's backup are incredible.
Who didn't?
Classic rock loses another one...
