Two Israelis killed in bomb attack at Karni crossing
By MARGOT DUDKEVITCH
Emergency teams rush to scene of the explosion at the Karni crossing.
A double suicide bomb attack at the Karni commercial crossing in northern Gaza left five dead and at least 10 wounded late Thursday night.
According to initial reports, two suicide bombers infiltrated the area and blew up simultaneously on the Israeli side of the crossing.
Shortly after the massive explosion, gun battles erupted between security forces and Palestinian gunmen.
The two suicide bombers were counted in the tally of five dead, Channel 2 reported.
Israeli security officials confirmed that there are a large number of casualties, but have yet to clarify whether they were IDF soldiers or security guards employed by the airport authority.
Owing to the fierce gunbattles at the site of the explosion, Magen David Adom officials said they were having extreme difficulty in reaching the wounded in order to treat them.
They had thus far evacuated five wounded from the area, but additional wounded were waiting to be treated. MDA officials said that two of the victims were moderately wounded and two were severely wounded. They were evacuated to hospital by helicopter.
Security forces are searching the area to make sure that there are no additional terrorists in the area.
Fatah Al Aksa Martyrs' Brigades is claiming responsibility for the attack.
The organization claimed that they succeeded in sneaking a 100 kg bomb to the crossing. The attack was in response to the assassination of a member of the al-Aksa Martyrs' Brigades, the organization said.
Karni crossing is main crossing that transports food and all equipment between Israel and the Gaza Strip. The crossing was preparing to close for the night as the explosion occurred, Channel 2 reported.

WELCOME TO THE WHITE HOUSE, MR. NEW PRIME MINISTER OF THE PA.
Yawn.
It must be Thursday in Israel. Or Tuesday...or Saturday.
Sharon will do nothing. Tomorrow will be another bombing.
Yawn.
It is a sad state when supposedly public service organizations advertize themselves based on the number of poeple thay have murdered...such is the Arab way of things. Pilgrim...fill your hand.
Photo from YNet:
Funny, it is the Prime Minister's policies of resolute IDF action and building the fence that have caused a huge drop in deaths and injuries from terrorism. Perhaps you didn't notice that people weren't dying daily any more and that we didn't have these pictures on a daily basis.
If this intifada/homicidal bombing violence occurred in the US in numbers proportional to Israel's size, we wouldn't be as patient as the Israelis have been. Just a thought.
Dead and Injured Reported in Terror Attack at Karnei Crossing
00:02 Jan 14, '05 / 4 Shevat 5765
At approximately 22:50 hours on Thursday night, a powerful explosion rocked the Karnei Crossing in northern Gaza, reported to be a double suicide bombing attack at the commercial crossing. Once again, it appears terrorists took advantage of good will gestures by Israel, permitting late night transport of goods across the crossing point.
Conflicting reports indicate 2-3 persons have been killed and between 12-15 injured. Rescue efforts are hampered since responding personnel were attacked with automatic weapons fire and mortar shells. Reports from the scene a short time ago indicate mortar shells are still be launched.
Armor-plated MDA ambulances and army medical vehicles responded to the scene. At least four persons have been transported to the trauma unit of Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva, with one flown by helicopter, apparently in serious condition. Al-Aqsa Brigade, Hamas and the Salah a-Din Brigade have all claimed joint responsibility. Ynet reports that northern Gaza al-Aqsa commander Abu Masab explained his soldiers planned to abduct IDF soldiers from the location, but were compelled to detonate the bombs at some point. IDF sources report the bombs were large, apparently 150 kilograms (330 LBS).
Quite so. Here is another thought: It is pressure from the U.S government for "restraint" that ties the Prime Minister's hands.

Large IDF Force Operating at Karnei
23:43 Jan 13, '05 / 3 Shevat 5765
(IsraelNN.com) A large IDF force is responding to the Karnei Crossing following the attack and subsequent gunfire and mortar shells. Soldiers are also combing the area for additional explosive devices and/or terrorists.
Channel 2 is now reporting three dead.
"...policies of resolute IDF action..."
Sharon sat on his fat *** for years while hundreds of innocent civilian Jews were horribly blown to bits. In Sharon's Bizzarro world one is less likely to die in the military than riding a bus or getting a bite out.
The suicidal insanity of offering "land for peace" will only bring about Israel's destruction.
Israel has learned nothing.
Like bargaining with cancer.
Like bargaining with cancer.
It was not that long ago that one logged on in the morning with trepidation, worrying over whether another bombing had occurred. It was awful. It has been better. The wall has helped.
