No political bias none at all. So says the independent panel that CBS News asked to find out what went wrong with its infamous 60 Minutes broadcast concerning George W. Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard. "The panel," says its 224-page report, "cannot conclude that a political agenda at 60 Minutes drove the ... segment."
Why not? Certainly the panel could have drawn that conclusion had it uncovered "smoking gun" evidence such as an anti-Bush or pro-John Kerry e-mail written by, say, the producer, Mary Mapes. Or if it had found evidence of an agenda in her "long pursuit" of the story, or the fact that it relied on many anti-Bush sources, or the fact that Ms. Mapes made at the least an unwise contact with the Kerry campaign.

CBiaS.......
And the fools at C-BS just keep trying to white-wash their own crimes, as if they have created some doubt in the minds and eyes of the world that their efforts were legitimate and unbiased. (barf bucket please!)
Again, their blind arrogance and leftist self-servitude in full operation.
All they've done is succeeding in prolonging the agony.
In all seriousness, someone or several someones at CBS need to be prosecuted over this. If CBS had done this to a private individual, the legal settlement would run into the millions.
Rather's daughter was certainly heavily involved.
Wonder if Mary Mapes will go on to fame and fortune as predicted by Rush.
I've never understood the exactly legal standards for lying about people if they are public figures, but this doesn't seem fair at all.
Obviously, all of this has occurred to Roger Ailes years ago.
I don't think they are capable of "handling the truth" as Jack Nicholson so famously remarked in "A Few Good Men."
Their mindset is so firmly entrenched it may take a few more episodes like this or an even more serious tanking in their ratings to penetrate their skulls.
Even then, I wonder?
I wonder if they won't just think ... we need to try even harder to get all those idiots out there to see things our way.
I would think that aside from Bush who was slandered, the widow and son of Col. Killian, whose name was forged, would have justification for civil action against CBS, its employees, and their "sources." As would the retired General (can't recall his name) who was falsly accused of exerting pressure.
At the very least, the discovery phase would be very interesting.
Any legal types out their who would like to get in a Donnybrook with Viacom?
Not like we, or your average first-grader, needed confirmation. Someone slap a Captain Obvious (Just say no to duh!) on this!
"Is it clear to Viacom that there was bias?"
If it's not clear, perhaps some Freepers could ask them: Viacom's Investor Relations Department at 1-800-516-4399.
"No political bias - none at all"
Hahahahaha--another satire, right?
Lying becomes an issue when the standards for liabel and slander are enforced.
The biggest hurdle there is malice.
I don't if it's entirely accurate to call it independent.
They could not conclude that the memos were fake either. The report was a joke.
Ohhh no bias at all what so ever especially when the talking heads in the MSM all circle their wagons around Dannoboy and keep repeating the no bias mantra.
All while keeping a straightface in the very face of bias.
RE: "The biggest hurdle there is malice."
In this case, I think they could prove 'reckless disregard of the truth' and would not need to show malice.
