WASHINGTON, Jan. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Thirty-one states get a "D" or an "F" in measurements of the gun laws in those states, according to nationwide ratings released today by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March in partnership with state-based gun violence prevention organizations across the nation.
In the eighth year of the release of the grades, only three states actually changed grades, two for the worse and one for the better. But a number of states strengthened laws linking guns and domestic violence, and others defeated the most extreme concealed weapons proposals such as allowing concealed guns in bars and schools. Overall, there is concern gun violence in some states could increase in 2005 because Congress failed to renew the federal assault weapon ban, which expired last fall, and many states with reasonable laws border on states that lack restrictions on assault weapons.
The states that saw a grading change include Indiana, whose score improved from a "D-minus" to a "D" because the state defeated a gun lobby effort to overturn a recent Supreme Court decision holding that gun owners can be held responsible for negligently leaving guns accessible to children and other improper users; Ohio, which saw its grade fall from a "D-plus" to a "D-minus" because the state passed a dangerous new law that forces police to let almost anyone carry hidden handguns in public; and South Carolina, whose grade fell from a "C-minus" to a "D-plus" because the state repealed the one-handgun-per-month law that had helped stop gun-trafficking.
Virginia only rates a pathetic C- from these @$$holes .... we need to work on increasing children's freedom ... I won't be satisfied until we rate a solid F-.
Agreed. I am surprised that we did that bad! Must be counties like Fairfax screwing us up!
Keep fighting, we're winning!
Which translates into an "A" or a "B" in understanding the Constitution and proper role of government, a much more important ranking. More work to do in 19 states though, I see.
At least in Texas, the CCL certification is not automatic.
It should be!!
Jack
I'm thinking of calling them up and asking, out of the states that received an "F", which was the absolute "worst" (best). When they ask why I want to know, I'll tell them I'm doing research on where I want to live!
"Gun Violence Prevention Laws" is Brady New-speak.
It means "disarm the sheeple so the New World Government police can keep the masses controlled and working like slaves to serve the Elite Masters."
"Let me guess, the states with the highest crime rates got the best grade???"
Guess What? The murder capital of the country recieved a B+
Go figure.
How dumb is this?
More proof that the liberal policy is about intent, not results. I especially appreciate your comments about the A and B grades going to the most dangerous places while the F grades go to the safest. In a liberal's mind black is white and up is down. As long as you can feel good about being shot at, keep passing more laws!
Been there and I teach NRA classes in Richmond and NEVER EVER fail to point my students in your direction. Keep up the good work. I donate and probably should join. I'm a lifer in NRA and GOA.
I demand a recount! Where the h3!! is our "F"?
What do we need to do to get it? Shoot a few Brady Bunch idiots?
(Note that I did not say, "That can be arranged...")
PS: Well done in fairfax when y'all showed up in force after the Fairfax nazi cops locked up the two guys open-carrying.
KUDOS!
Texas doesn't deserve it. Put an Alaska style carry law in to effect here and THEN you'll rate an "F".
1. Gun related crime is quite high there.
2. What would it matter if it weren't? As Archie Bunker used to say, would it matter if they were pushed outta windows? Put another way, would you rather live in a place with lots of guns and 3 murders/100,000 per year, and they are all gun homicides, or another place with strict gun control and 15 murders/100,000 per year, whether they are shooting deaths or strangulations? The gun grabbers don't even go so far as to look at the crime rates, they just look at the laws and say some places fall short. It's beyond merely short-sighted. It's just plain stupid.
I missed that event ... was out of town. Kudos to all who were there, though!
What about Massofcommiechusetts, where the RinoGovernor pretty much erased the right to bear arms and replaced it with the opportunity to pay a lot of money for the chance to beg the lords for the privelidge to hunt ducks?
That state slid further into the abyss.
They're not misinformed, they are evil bastards to the core.
These jerks want to eliminate our "right to bear arms" the first freedom to fall under tyranny.
I know--I was just trying to be polite---like they are---NOT!
