Hey everyone,

Been gone awhile but wanted to let all know that I'm back and am officailly a Airman (1st classs) in the United States Air Force.

BMT was an expierence...you have to go through it to understand it.

Well, I have to keep this short....I'm stationed at Goodfellow right now preparing to start classes for intel.

C'mon Marines...we all know we went to the REAL Boot Camp, although you Perris Island grads still look down on us Hollywood Marines :). But then again you are just jealous we were issued surfboards. You at least have to give this Airman credit for serving. Too many kids these days won't even consider the military, much less look up to someone serving.

Congrats Airman, I started out in the Marines in SIGINT but couldn't copy morse very well...ended up in Tank Battalion (a lot more fun!) Nose to the grindstone and I will give you the same advice I gave my two brothers when they went in. You are going to get crap until you re-up the first time. Lifers see a new batch of Jr. enlisted every year and until you can prove that you aren't just there for the College money...they will not respect you. You have to consider that they spend all their time training and mentoring troops just to see them roll out 4 years later. Can get quite frustrating. Of course if you are not planning on making it a carreer...do your best, enjoy your time in, and save as much money as you can. If you are not married...WAIT UNTIL YOU GET OUT! (no one ever listens to this advice) Unless it is a longtime relationship you had since before you enlisted...STAY SINGLE!

I got to spend my birthday in the motivation pit (slimy water-filled moat) just to keep my spirits up!

Ex zoomie here, too. 49350. Did my tech training at Keesler. BMT was fun. I was 25 when I went thru, so they couldn't instill fear in me as easily as they young kids in my flight. My TI was about the same age as me and we got along rather well.

Hollywood Marines? Oh yea, the boot camp where suntan oil and sunglasses are on your duece gear issue!

Hey, we're cutting him some slack. Told him congrats for serving. He can always do his four, get an Honorable Discharge, REALIZE his mistake, and join our BELOVED Corps!

From a retired Navy man, welcome to the ranks of those who have (and had) the patriotism to serve their country.
Be a hard charger in everything you do and you will go far.

I'm glad my B'day was not during Boot Camp. If the DI's knew you had a B'day, you had extra PT to do! Happy EFFIN B'DAY PRIVATE!.......

Oh yeah. Well, they look in the records for their victims and they never ever missed one. I smelled like swamp water all day. The only bright spot was when my buddies got to join me for the celebration! Trust the Corps never to leave anyone OUT! haha.

Suntan oil and Sunglasses? I don't seem to remember those on my issue...let's see....Surfboard, check...wetsuit, check...phone numbers of hot CA women that hang out at the beach, check...nope...had to buy the sunglasses myself. Besides, they would only issue BCGs anyway. Really hard to balance that surfboard and my M-16 on the "motivation hump" during 2nd phase though. :)

Of course the difference here is...if he wanted to upgrade and earn his EG&A...he has to go back through boot. A Marine never has to go through boot again to change service...not that any self-respecting Marine ever would.
