Clinton Memoirs Due Out In Paperback

NEW YORK (AP) The memoirs of former President Clinton, one of last year's biggest books, will come out in May in paperback, with some additional material and a format that divides the epic-length work into two.

The announcement was made Wednesday by Clinton's publisher, Alfred A. Knopf.

"My Life," which has sold 2 million copies in its 957-page hardcover edition, actually will come out in two formats: trade paperback, which has the same dimensions as hardcover and will have a first printing of 250,000, and mass market paperback, a cheaper, pocket-sized edition. The mass market version of "My Life" will be divided into two volumes, "The Early Years" and "The Presidential Years," each with a first printing of 500,000.

Trade paperbacks are sold primarily in bookstores, while mass market editions are also found in alternative outlets, such as grocery stores and drug stores.

"The success of the book in hardcover, across the entire spectrum of retail outlets, suggests that the audience for both paperback editions will be considerable," Sonny Mehta, president and editor in chief of Knopf, said in a statement.

Clinton's representative, Washington, D.C. attorney Robert Barnett, said Wednesday that both paperback editions of "My Life" will have the new material, but said the actual content had not been determined. "There might be a new chapter or a new foreword," Barnett told The Associated Press.

Wonder if its pages would make good toilet paper.

I wonder how Slick Willy would feel if he knew it wasn't the cost of the hardcover that kept me from buying it..

Why not just print it on a toilet paper roll?

Yes. Instead of a multi volume book, it's a multi roll book.

Ask the publisher if there's a Charmin edition with perforated, tear-out pages.

Wait, the paperback will have new material not in the hardcover? Sounds like a cheap ploy to get people to buy the book, for something "new".

Wonder what the new stuff could be? He has had plenty of time to think up more lies.

"Wonder if the pages will make good toilet paper?"

This book will be in millions of truckstop toilets, in a glass faced box, displaying this sign. "IN CASE OF EMERGENCY,BREAK GLASS"

The only way I'd buy it is if it came out printed on Wet Ones as a "with Aloe" edition.

Epic in length, but not in substance.

"Sing to me, Muse, of the tale of Billy Jeff,
How he came to the White House after long years in the sticks,
Trained in corruption and drug-sniffing, until Angry Jove,
Looking down from the height of Mount Olympus,
Spied him with Monica, dallying in the Oval Office,
And jealously sent his messenger, fleet-winged Mercury,
To the apartment of a man named Drudge. But first . . ."

And so forth. A thousand pages, forsooth.
