I wish I could remember where, but I read that when Bush joined the Air National Guard, he had every expectation that he'd go to Vietnam. And when Kerry joined the Navy, he had every expectation he wouldn't go.

Try a search on "Kerry" and "deferments"...someone is bound to have it, in this informational age.
I also heard that Kerry got four deferments, but was denied the fifth one, and that's when he went...interesting, of course, because all Kerry and the compliant media wanted to talk about, was the four deferments that VPOTUS got.

I guess it's just "wishful thinking" on my part that this story would get "legs" and we'd get the TRUTH for all to see.

Don't know if you can prove that, but I'll bet that's on the money.

Not only that, but Kerry's first year was spent out in the middle of the ocean, SAFE. His second tour was meant to be a year stint patrolling the coast of Vietnam, thought at the time to be a very safe and JFK-Like move for Kerry. 3 weeks after his transfer and start of second tour he got reassigned to missions up river. He never had any intention of getting into the thick of things, and when he did, he accidentally wounded himself at least 2 of the 3 times he was wounded and received purple hearts. He was out of there shortly after that.
