SACRAMENTO (AP) - As she prepared to announce her candidacy for her late husband's congressional seat, Doris Matsui was endorsed Wednesday by Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi.
"Doris has advocated for the people of Sacramento for more than 25 years. She knows the 5th District inside and out, and has worked effectively on its behalf," Pelosi, D-San Francisco, said in a statement. "Doris and Bob Matsui shared a love for the people of Sacramento, and Doris will build upon Bob's outstanding work in Congress." Doris Matsui summoned reporters to her home to announce she was running in a March 8 special primary election for the Sacramento-area seat held for 26 years by Rep. Robert T. Matsui, who died Jan. 1.
Now a lobbyist, Doris Matsui, 60, served in the Clinton White House. Her announcement - along with Pelosi's endorsement - was expected to keep most other Democrats out of the race.
I see the widder is in deep mourning for her loss.....
Since when does a spouse (male or female) make an ideal replacement in public office? I didn't last with Jean Carnahan in MO.

WASHINGTON - When Doris Matsui announces today that she will seek election to the seat vacated by the death of her husband, she will cross the line into elective politics and the glare of a spotlight she has rarely before experienced.
As the wife of Rep. Robert Matsui, who died unexpectedly Jan. 1, Doris Matsui has played a supporting role to the popular Sacramento Democrat. They were a team, numerous people recounted.
In the last two decades, she also has carved out her own career in politics, essentially using her powers of persuasion to accomplish the goals of others from behind the scenes.
For eight years she worked as a policy aide in the White House for President Clinton. Since 1998, she has been a senior adviser and government relations director in the law firm of Collier Shannon Scott, where several communications and high technology companies were among the clients for whom she lobbied before the Bush administration and Congress.
And while Bonham said the campaign will be a way of "introducing" Doris Matsui to Sacramento, it also could revive the most bitter period in the couple's public life.
In 1996, the New York Times accused Doris Matsui and Clinton campaign fund-raiser John Huang of formulating a strategy to solicit contributions from Asian Americans.
Perpetuate The Regime.
I'm kind of tired of widows thinking they can fill their husbands shoes in public office. They practically campaign on the sympathy vote. If my husband were to die (God forbid), I sure wouldn't go over to his company and apply for his job in computers.
But that job undoubtedly requires intelligence and self-respect. Matsui's doesn't.
A worker in Clintons white House,A lobbyist, Praised by Nancy Pelosi, If she was black she would be a shoo-in for the Demmies.
The sympathy vote in full throttle.
I hope the Republicans run a good challenge.
Who cares...this is a 100% RAT seat...let them do as they like
If the widow wins, then Pelosi gets two votes in the Congress.
