While I'm sure that the anti-freeware contingent will come in and complain, this idea strikes me as being sound. The only question is: what would we be FReepCasting?

So like, um, how much malware can we expect in the BT? And didn't the FEDS just shut down Suprnova? I've been reluctant to get into bittorrent. It seems like another Napster.

Vaguely related:

Blog + Video = Vlog [TV-quality graphics + transitions and titles = homemade newscasting]

Nice idea, and BitTorrent in itself is not bad software, just when used improperly.

This would be a legal use by even the most strict definition of illegal use.

IF you get enough seeds in BT, it can be really fast. However, you need a big number or it won't go fast.

But, I would love to see Freeper-created video media etc. on our own Torrent server. That would be awesome. And the software is free.

Check out the only Video Log "VLOG" broadcast I've ever been able to watch more than twice.

http://www.rocketboom.com/vlog/

Notice that visual stimulation is an important part of Video Log programming.

Rocketboom leans left, but it's pretty light on all subjects.

The protestwarriors distribution of videos from events is also a good thing.

FR and the Blogs played a historic (albeit small) role in the last election.

I have been wondering, since I saw what happened, if FR couldn't morph into a new media channel between now and the next election. Actually I've been thinking quite alot about this concept.

The way the news media and the entertainment industry swung into action for the Kerry showed me:

1. They are 100% Blue

2. They cannot and will not be changed.

Also the last election showed me:

1. There is a potentially huge Red market for news and entertainment.

2. The Blue media needs to be circumvented or replaced, not reformed.

As far as I can tell, we need to set up a ping list and some sort of think-tank to work through the concepts, strategy and details.

If something like this would work it would need to be more than just informative, it would need to be entertaining or you will never reach a mass audience.

I already use BitTorrent to download episodes of "Battlestar Galactica" from the UK's Sky One broadcast, "Corner Gas" from CTV and "Call For Help" (gotta get my Leo fix) from G4-TechTV Canada.

Tell me more as to how this would work for us.

I've already bought the rights to FReepCast.com.

I'm in and supportive somewhat. If you want to use FreeRepublic I believe they should co-own the rights to the site

Alert:

Apparently, Suprnova.org is working with some other folks to develop a new p2p program (it is called Exeem).....but unlike Kazaa etc., it is based on the BT network, so it is decentralized.

In any event, this software will allow you to search all thte torrents being offered, however, just like Kazaa would.

This is a huge development, and would make BT use much easier to figure out for novices, and even for more experienced individuals.

The public beta version is expected in a couple weeks. Now, I do not know exactly how this will turn out. The rumors are wild about what Exeem will be like at the end of the day. Possibly rampant adware, but the people involved just say banner ads, which is not a big deal.

However, beta testers are reporting it is very fast for the tiny number of beta testers on the network. This could be a good indication of its speed in the future.

Who knows here...I guess we will see in a couple weeks.
