To: Libertarianize the GOP

Not that I know of...but I'm getting tired of prople trashing the John Birch Society, calling them a right-wing group of Conspiratorialists, etc., etc., etc.

While I'm not a member of the JBS, I used to subscribe to their magazine, which is called "The New American" several yrs ago--& methinks they have written some EXCELLENT stories that deserve some credit. Every so often they release their "Conservative Index", which rates Members of Congress on their voting records--not based on single-issues like abortion or gun rights like Planned Parenthood or the NRA do respectively, but based ONLY on their adherence to the Constitution.

WHAT A CONCEPT!!! Rating our Congress critters on nothing more than their willingness to follow their constitutional oaths? No wonder why both major political parties have such a condescending view towards the JBS (BTW, the very honorable Representative RON PAUL usually ranks @ the top of the list by a longshot!). From what I can tell, there is NO other stronger defender of our Constitution than the JBS & Rep. PAUL, & I challenge anyone to prove me wrong (I hope they do, 'cuz I wanna find out who they are so I can support them, too!).

I read a good deal of the New American a few years ago shortly after the Oklahoma City Federal Building was bombed. The conspiracy theory claiming that elements of our government planted shaped charges on the building's Columns in order to increase the destruction caused by the truck bomb is so absurd that I don't trust anything put out by JBS.

There are too many one issue people who have closed the blinders to the big picture. The Conservative index is a good overall rating of congress. As you say, adherance to the Constitution is the key. Gun rights are Constitutional so that should be as much a part of the big picture as property rights etc.

Hold ONE conservative value and you are profiled as a right winger. Hold one liberal value and you are profiled as a left winger. What ever happened to middle of the road, which means people are free thinking to make decisions based on intelligent factors rather than one narrow minded political perspective that the other side dislikes??? People are too quick to lash out because you may stand for something they disagree with.
Part of the fragmentation of American culture is the result of one issue confrontationalism. Nothing else counts.
