I wonder if this will reverse the Lake Powell situation to any significant degree.

Seems like it will make a big difference. This area has been in drought for quite a while. It's just more than unfortunate "the cure" happened all at once.

Spent a week on Lake Powell this summer. All I can say is God's handiwork there is most impressive. The place is just breathtaking, especially at dawn. The nightly shooting star show I will never forget.

I've traveled a lot in my adult life and Lake Powell will always be my favorite.

(Psst: It's not a natural lake)

We go to Powell about a dozen times a year. The striper fishing is excellent. The enviros are trying to get it drained.

LOL. We (my sister, mom, my niece and I) did two longer trips out West in the late 80's. The second trip lasted about 3 weeks and we put close to 7,000 miles on the jeep. Rocky Mt. Natl. Park, Black Canyon, Silverton, Durango, Mesa Verde, North rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Cedar Breaks, Capitol Reef, Arches, Bridges, Newspaper Rock, Lake Powell, Mexican Hat, Monument Valley, South rim of the Grand Canyon, Tuscon, painted desert... you get the picture.

It was gorgeous. All of it. But the one thing we were a bit disappointed with was our trip to Lake Powell. We'd seen all these lovely photos of slick rock and hoped we'd get to see/photograph it too.

I'm sure it's lovely if you get to go boating on it, and get to some of those out of the way places. But it was a really looooong drive to get there and all we found was a boat landing/gas station/convenience store and a landing strip. And to add insult to injury, the women's bathroom was locked because a family had commandeered it for the showers...

It happened to be my niece's birthday-- poor kiddo got stuck with a ham sandwich and popsicle.

We still give my sister a hard time about Lake Powell. In a goood hearted way. We have a lot of fond memories of those trips and the people and the places we encountered along the way...
