OK, THE AMERICAN ARE IN IRAQ, NOW WHAT? (INTERESTING EDITIORIAL FROM A CANADIAN)
Washington Dispatch ^ | 1/10/05 | Michael McBride

Posted on 01/10/2005 11:20:30 AM PST by areafiftyone

Having said what we think’s wrong with the war in Iraq and having made known our disagreement with American policy, the only real question for Canadians and for the rest of the world is “Now what?”

In my view, there are only two options. One, we can sit by and let America  go its own way. We can let Iraq suffer, we can let the whole damn thing noisily go to hell in a hand basket. There seems to be a frantic debate in America about that right now, some say to hell with you, their administration seeks our assistance. Here some say let them stew in its own juices and there is some validity to that point of view. We can indeed sit on the sidelines, nod wisely, congratulate ourselves how wise we were to stay out of Iraq. We can be proud of ourselves about being at their side in Afghanistan, we can point fingers and criticise. While that may be safe, and while it may appear noble not to get involved with what is today widely regarded as a debacle, that attitude it will do absolutely nothing to resolve the problem nor will it help the Iraqi people one single iota. “I told you so” is not a problem solving device.

No, but it appears to be the only thing many leftists have in their arsenal.

Can anyone point to the larger issue here, and that would be Iraq was going to hell in a hand basket before we got there, but it was doing so more quietly.

Loud noises always send lefties to the nearest emergency aroma therapy room.

There are some who would prefer that Iraq descend into lawlessness and tryranny rather than anything good happen to these 25 million people which could be described as a Buh success. From what I read, the author is much less hateful than that.

You post that as if it was humorous - it's not.

This is truly the winter of our discontent - bleak and getting bleaker.

Miss a 2nd season and we might be talking mass migrations or revolution.

By orders of magnitude there is less suffering and death going on in Iraq now than there was before the war -- not that you would expect the vast majority of Canadians to recognize that fact.

“I told you so” is not a problem solving device.

Nor, for that matter, is aid from Canada.

Whether the sad residents of Canuckistan help us or not will scarcely have an effect on the pacification of Iraq.

Oh Canada! The bigotry of low expectations - willing to ignore the Tyranny of 50 million Arabs in exchange for a stable Oil market. The Crisis of Islam says it best, but I've lost my copy...

The author infers that if someone does not help America, we will surely fail in Iraq. While I am not one to turn my nose up at anyone who wants to help, I disagree with the assessment that America cannot finish this properly without it.

In fact, we seem to be one or two major cleanup operations away from a complete success.

The elections are scheduled to go off soon and Iraqi security forces are almost ready to stand on their own two feet. I believe that once the people of Iraq are finally convinced that the Baathists are gone for good and that the promise of democracy is not a sham, we will see the Iraqi people finally embracing the changes.

AND a major fact overlooked by the MSM, in Canada and the US, is that the vast majority of casualties are Iraqis, caused by Iraqis (and other assorted terrorists).

Much as I dislike President Bush’s policies, I had a distinct wave of respect and admiration for the man when he stood up in Halifax, before a hostile but respectful audience, and said with a grin “I just want to thank the Canadian people who came out to wave... with all five fingers....”. While it may not have been what he meant or what his intent was at all, I felt a distinct sense that he had a certain grudging respect for us. I believe he acknowledged that while we oppose his policies, we treated him with courtesy and respect in spite of it all. I hope so, that’s how I think my country is and that’s how I want it to be.

I guess this yahoo is trying to take credit for what our TRUE FRIENDS in Canada did for our President. It wasn't the America-hating, Bush-bashing, leftist-leaning, terrorist-loving, Socialist-mentality Libs in Canada treating him with courtesy and respect, it was the Conservatives in Canada who waved.

Just like a lib, taking credit where none is due.

LOL!

Now what? Does the author mean "now what do we do since we know the USA can and will do the right thing for the USA, no matter what a bunch of socialists think?"

Now what? I'll tell ya what - sit down and maintain silence while daddy scares the boogey man away from the closet.

No offense to conservative canucks on this website, but what exactly does this guy think Canada can do? Send in a Canadian Aircraft Carrier battle Group? What is their "soft power" going to do to help us against those psychopaths in the Sunni triangle?

Here's a option [coming soon to a election near ya]...vote in a Conservative majority government and get involved in bringing freedom to the millions of people in Iraq, while bringing the fight to the terrorists in their own backyard.

Then all the sore loser lefties [both American and Canadian] can go to France and Syria to live.

If your not with us you are against us - and we won't be forgetting which side you are on.

"...and while it may appear noble not to get involved with what is today widely regarded as a debacle.."

...widely regard as a debacle my a**.

This is what pisses me off royally. It is regarded as a debacle and referred to as such by those who WANT it to be a debacle and delight in every misstep and setback.

And those who WANT it to be a debacle and who delight in the problems are generally those who could have done something sooner and didn't because they knew it wouldn't go perfectly and couldn't imagine an "other side" not playing up the 'debacle' angle every chance it got.
