When Lawrence spotted the ad for The Rod, she began collecting online petition signatures protesting the device, eventually amassing more than 500 supporters

Not much support as online petitions go.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: Paddle boards in elementary school, I am sure, saved many a boy from jail. I'm a substitute teacher and cannot believe the behavior tolerated in schools today.

Thank God I live in a rural school district where the elementary principal has her own paddle. She transferred her from the big city and was delighted to have one of the maintenance men custom make one for her. It has on ceremonial display in her office.

Today, I had to drop by the high school office. A new transfer student was standing at the counter in a state of shock. She would not be allowed to start class until she went home to change her shirt. Her belly was visible and therefore in violation of dress code. She stared at the secretary as though she did not comprehend English. It was beautiful to behold! A real dress code that is enforced. Ahhhh.
