Mel Gibson post-award press conference-"Kinship" with Michael Moore

Posted on 01/10/2005 10:33:48 AM PST by bushfamfan

Does anyone have the quotes that Mel Gibson apparently made after receiving his People's Choice Award in saying he felt a "kinship" with Michael Moore and attacking the war in Iraq?

"Mel is a sinner just like the rest of us he did something extraordinary that defied a heathen secular society Hollywood.. "

I've done nothing extraordinary to defy Hollywood.

Oh wait - there's some missing punctuation in that sentence, I think...

"what did you do with GOD's money? "

You have no idea what I do with MY money. You also have no idea of the health of my own children, esp. my 2 year old child, nor what my family is going thru as a result. To hell with phony Mel and his millions. I could not care less how much he has nor how he spends it. I was not a fan of him using the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ to make a billion dollars, any more than I was a fan of a lying televangelist. I'm just happy I didn't get suckered into giving him any of MY money.

Please get off your high seat of judgement, as it decreases your credibility more than your total lack of punctuation.

I second that. Just proves that Hollywood is completely irrelevant.

If Mr. Gibson's participation in the film is what attracted you to the Passion of Christ, then you went for the wrong reasons. If folks feel used, then maybe they jumped the wrong bandwagon to begin with.

None of the Christians I know will be returning the Passion because of Gibson's comments. Though most of the folks I know put spiritual truth ahead of political banter.

But, by all means, banter.

"I am sayine Crusades were Political not from any biblical scripture"

I agree. However, the thousands of regular-guy soldiers were, for the most part, Christian in belief.

But yeah - the Church itself was mostly a corrupt political organization throughout the Middle Ages. Money and Power will do that to ya!

"Not everybody is in love with Bush like you are."

Nope. I'm not, but I'm a fiscal conservative and thus dislike most of Bush's fiscal policies. Unlike Bush, I'm not a fan of more and bigger gov't.

Sad but true.

I'm enjoying our responses, btw. Sorry for the snippy one I sent.

"Christianity is not pathetic pacifism."

Christ was the ultimate pacifist. Rather than shoot lightning bolts out of his eyes at the Romans, he allowed himself to be killed. He said love your enemy, and there's precious little of that among Christians I know. I don't love MY enemy, so don't think I'm preaching. I'm just saying it makes sense for a devout Christian to be against the war. I'm for the war, and I'm not a devout Christian.

Christ was the ultimate pacifist.

He made quick work of the money changers in the temple for a pacifist!

I see you aren't familiar with all my posts. I get slammed from Bush lovers because I am very critical of the President. The point is he isn't reaching out, he is one who sees Michael Moore and his film as respectable, likeable film. There is no excuse for that and it's for people to be informed that he does in fact embrace something like Fahrenheit 9/11.

Where does it say that Gibson is embracing Farenheit 9/11? You might as well say that Gibson loved Farenheit 9/11...

You're fine with Mel praising Fahrenheit 9/11, fine. You do know what that is about, don't you? Now tell me one good thing about Fahrenheit 9/11? Is that really such a Christian thing of Mel to do in praising a film that lashes out at George W. Bush for taking us to war for oil and profit, to lie and send our men and women to die for his deliberate lies? I have a serious problem with that.

Did you find any quotes or sources yet?

I recall even before the Passion came out, Mel expressed his disagreement with going into Iraq, so this doesn't hugely surprise me.

Yeah the body parts of his victim were strewn across the temple. /sarcasm

Seriously though, can anyone cite an act of violence committed by christ other than throwing the moneychangers out of tht temple?

You know what I have a serious problem with? Posters who somehow are equating Christianity with a person's political beliefs - and they are becoming rampant on FreeRepublic. Christianity does not = Republican Party or Bush Policies or Support For The War.

Flame away.
