"What a crock! What about Rather? Mapes is the scapegoat."
Nope. Rather was the face of CBS's lies but Mapes was the source and the mastermind behind the lies. She was the one behind the 'panties on the head' prison scandal and a flaming progressive who absolutely hated, to the point of obsession, BUSH.
She was mostly responsible and hopefully her career as a journalist is over. It certainly is with any news organization who has any claim to objectivity and non partisanship.

Bush 41 told Dan Rather on live national TV years ago that Dan wasn't doing his job like he should, and ever since then Dan Rather has had a partisan axe to grind with the Bush family, and if he's going after the son he may as well be going after the father.
Rather may be the face of CBS, but he's the horse's ass of journalism.

I expect them to start raiding personnel from Fox News in order to fulfill their promise the the White House of becoming "more fair and balanced". It would also serve the purpose of weakening a strong competitor. IMO, if someone leaves Fox to go to seeBS (read, Paula Zahn who left for CNN), then they were failures at trying to disguise themself as "fair and balanced" at Fox and were about to be booted. : )

I disagree. If CBS offered enough money, ANYONE at Fox News would jump at the opportunity. It would have nothing to do with their political leanings, only the money. I seriously expect CBS to start leaning centrist to conservative after this.
To: TommyDale
You are probably right on both counts. I don't care which way seeBS leans, though; they're conniving liars, not news reporters.

Mapes is NO scapegoat.I agree with you. While Rather's involvement in this so-called report is also apparent, it was she who pushed for the piece.

They may be conniving liars, but they're also humans with an opinion total opposite yours and mine. Rather than just report the news that I am seeing in their video as it plays out, they shove their opinions in my face. Even Barry Peterson tonight (reporting on the tsunami) ended his report on the multitudes of unidentified dead in the tsunami disaster in Asia with the failed peace talks in the Middle East, and said President Bush has been militant on both.
