New Jersey's escalating population of illegal immigrants is placing an ever-growing burden on the state's hospitals, which expect to lose $200 million this year on care to the underground community.
Doctors and administrators around the state are complaining that the cost of treating illegal immigrants has forced them to delay the purchase of life-saving technology or the addition of valuble staff.
And according to the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) in West Windsor, the burden will only increase unless state or federal agencies step in and pay the bills.
'snip'
Given the uncertainty about how many immigrants live in the country illegally, no one can say exactly how much they cost the nations hospitals.
However, given that New Jersey's illegal aliens cost hospitals an estimated $200 million, the many millions of illegal aliens across the nation surely cost several billion dollars per year. The hospitals in just one city, Los Angeles, report that they lose $350 million a year on illegal immigrants.

Something has to wake up the American public. So let health care disappear.
The Mexican government now publishes a book instructing its nationals on how to be an illegal.
Ironically, one of the big selling points of the NAFTA deal was that it would greatly alleviate illegal Mexican border-jumping......but since that time it has skyrocketed.
Adding insult to injury American taxpayers are subsidizing foreign aid transfers to Mexico.
The government of Mexico---with all of its oil revenue----needs to be taking care of its own people, not "outsourcing' them as wards of American taxpayers.
Mexico can well-afford it. Mexico has more "Forbes" billionaires, 11, than all but eight other nations. It has more billionaires than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or Taiwan. It also has more than 85,000 millionaires. According to the CNN report,
Mexico sits on oil reserves worth about $400 billion, but Mexico's state-owned oil company, Pemex, doesn't have the investment funds to tap those reserves, and Mexico's Congress refuses to allow foreign investment in Pemex.
According to Visa International that is now clamoring for a share of the transfer fees, American money sent South of the Border by illegals constitutes $38 BILLION this year alone constituting Mexico's second largest most profitable industry.
America needs to seal our borders and let Vincente Fox know that we will cut off every penny in aid he gets from the United States.
America should mandate proof for all cash transfers out of the US and/or force all transferring agencies -- banks, credit unions, Amex, Western Union to collect a substantial withholding tax -- 50%, say -- on every unexplained foreign remittance.
The NJ hospitals are trying to make a case for being given more money by the federal government. They should study the way Houston does it instead.
Simple just raise property taxes like Texas and Houston does..still isn't any free lunch...

Of course, then we'd have to retain lawyers for the court cases to follow. I don't think we'll be able to deduct that from our taxes. Dagnabit.
I write to him often about the problems illegal immigration is causing California. He flat-out doesn't care.
Something has to wake up the American public. So let health care disappear.
When our next 9/11 is attributed to terrorists coming across our southern border, American people will be "up in arms" about it and states and the feds will finally do something about it. It's a shame to realize that it will take something this disasterous to happen before our politicians would do something.
"Of course, then we'd have to retain lawyers for the court cases to follow. I don't think we'll be able to deduct that from our taxes. Dagnabit."
It's really all about the approach when it comes to federal government politics and politicians in general.
You don't say "I'll never vote for you again" you describe a positive aspect of a politicians opponent. (hillary's position on immigration comes to mind)
You don't talk about "armed rebellion" and "taking our borders back" (that's a no-win) you talk about how much money the federal government is going to lose. (the deduct medical expenses option does that)
The more sophisticated conservatives get in working over republican politicians by ostensibly (and hey, even in reality if it makes sense)supporting democrat politicians when they take conservative issues as their own, the more conservative the republican party will become.
Start sending republican politicians notes about how good you think Hillary's position on immigration is, and you'll see movement. If you write them and tell them you oppose illegal immigration they'll react with a yawn.
Politicians are tools. You have to use them correctly in order to get the desired effect.
Rep. J. D. Hayworth of Arizona is also very much involved in the fight. He's been very vocal lately, especially against the pamphlet the Mexican govt. published advising illegals as to how to cross the border.
Like he could even care one wit. GWB, although great on military, has been an abject failure and disaster on this issue.
I live in Yonkers and Port Chester, where the hospital that shut down is, is full of illegals. Down on main street over there it is like being in Mexico City. Not too many USA Flags!!!!
I don't pay taxes there anymore. I live 35 miles from the border in a rural county without a hospital.
That's unnecessary. Go after the businesses who hire them, fine the hell out of them, and the jobs will dry up. People will stop coming here and the ones here will deport themselves.
" Well, we can thank the federal government for this. "
Bottom line. The fish stinks from the head.
believe I saw a reference to "them" in my local paper today as "non-voting residents" ... hurl ...
I only became aware of this because the place burned down and it ended up the newspapers. Turns out his "family" didn't have kitchen privileges and one of his "family members" was living there because she saw his ad when she was living in AZ and wanted to attend school in CA.
I don't know about NJ, but in CA owners of run down properties will charge top dollar and look the other way when multiple families move in. My neighbor is a prime example with cars parked practically on top of each other on the street although each complex has at least two off-street parking places per unit.
It also became evident in the last few months that Mexican consulates, lenders and realtors were getting together to inform this "population" as to how they could acquire homes, i.e., split the cost, rent rooms, etc.
You are a man with his finger on the pulse!
Realtors are most devious lot of rotten people. They inflate the cost of these homes based on the rental value of the rooms and illegal apartments in the single family homes. It is such a sin.
Although I was happy GWB won, this illegal amensty thing really damped my enthusiasm for the innauguration. Illegal invasion is the biggest issue of the day, aside from Terrorism of course. These invaders, who care not to be Americans or assimilate in any way, are destroying our culture.
At least one hundred years ago those immigrants went to Ellis Island and were registered for papers. Go figure. They were stricter and better organized without computers 100 years ago!!!
Shame on you GWB. You turned your back on your base again!
And there are ZERO "crop pickers" in many if not all of our neighborhoods. And Jorge Bush originally introduced his BS as AgJobs. Facts are that California's central valleys have LOST farm land due to the influx of illegals.
EMTALA, a law passed by congress in the 1980's, led the way in to force physicians to treat everyone. The consequences, intended or not, has forced the closure of 80 hospitals in California.
