ISF, MARINES SEIZE WEAPONS CACHES; DETAIN SUSPECTS
CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, Iraq -- Iraqi Security Forces supported by U.S. Marines from the 1st Marine Division of the I Marine Expeditionary Force discovered a weapons cache in northeastern Fallujah on Jan. 8.
Members of the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, Iraqi Intervention Force, seized a weapons cache consisting of 47 mm rockets, 82 mm mortar rounds, grenades and an 82 mm mortar system.
In addition, Marines from the 1st Marine Division detained eight suspected insurgents and seized several weapons caches on Jan. 9 during operations throughout Al Anbar Province.
Weapons and munitions discovered in those caches included an anti-aircraft gun, rocket-propelled grenade rounds, anti-armor RPG rounds, RPG propellants, AK-47s, 120 mm mortar rounds, hand grenades, Insurgent propaganda and improvised-explosive-device-making material.
The seizure and subsequent destruction of the weapons caches reduces anti-Iraqi forces' ability to launch attacks against Iraqi and Multi-National Forces and Iraqi civilians.
Meanwhile, in Ramadi, soldiers of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, currently assigned to the 1st Marine Division, discovered 48 passports, 40 blank ID cards, 500,000 Iraqi dinar and $11,000 in one vehicle at a checkpoint.
It seems there has been a sea change ever since that rumored capture of Zarqawi.
Good Hunting..Saving lives.
I wonder what 47mm rockets are. The media has screwed it up again.
Thanks for the ping!
Bump!
