DAMASCUS -- Former Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry met yesterday with Syria's president and the senator said he hoped that strained US-Syrian relations could improve, provided Washington seized ''a moment of opportunity" available in the Mideast.

The United States has accused Syria of doing too little to stop insurgents from infiltrating into Iraq to attack coalition forces. Washington also has imposed sanctions on Damascus, accusing it of seeking weapons of mass destruction and hosting Palestinian groups Washington deems to be terrorist organizations. Syria denies the accusations but says it cannot fully control its porous border with Iraq.

Gee! I forgot Gore. Imagine that.

These people are all so alike and sooooo forgettable. They've already descended into the oubliette of history, where they belong.

Did anyone ask him to do this? Is he speaking for the American people? Did he ask President Bush if he could do this? He's just another Jimmy Carter, only, at least Carter WAS a president!

Having J f'n K go to Syria should be enough to scare them straight. He's the loser in the presidential race, criticizes the winner during a trip to Iraq, and has no say-so over US foreign policy (or US policy in pretty much any area). If he tells them what they want to hear, they'll realize just how "different page" their own position is.

sKerry is just trying to create an 'opposition movement' to recapture his delusions of grandeur days of his youth, and probably still running for president. He's the Adlai Stevenson of his time, minus the good looks (baw-haw-haw), intellect, integrity, and political future (baw-haw-haw).
