What always made me grateful to be a 'coner' was one simple word:

I was a Radioman, so I ended up a "Comm ET" before I got out. I was qualified QMOW (but not very good at it). It was my favorite watch.
QMOW: "Helm, standby to mark your head!"
Helm: "Uh-oh."
Dive: "Get back on course, you idiot!"
OOD: "What's going on?"
COW: "Messenger, relieve the outboard station."
Smut-mouth! Do you actually eat with that thing?
