TEXAS CITY, Texas -- Some parents were up in arms Friday after 10 students were strip-searched for a missing $10 bill at an award-winning charter school in Texas.
The incident happened Thursday at Mainland Preparatory Academy near Texas City, The Galveston County Daily News reported.
Principal Wilma Green said seven girls and three boys -- ages 11 and 12 -- had been in study hall when they were told to strip to their underwear.
She said the boys were sent off with a male teacher and the girls with a female teacher for the searches.
Green said the disrobing was nothing different from what the children would have done for gym class.
She added none of the children objected because they wanted to prove their innocence.
But one boy's mother was so infuriated that she's filed a complaint with police and pulled her four children from the school.
Sheesh, some people get so emotional when it comes to their kids! (sarcasm off)
strip searched for a 10 spot? what is this world coming too....
I'm so old now that I'd PAY $10 to get strip searched.
Micheal Jackson logic at work.
I suspect there's more to this story.
Yeah, back when I was in junior high they at least pretended it was for a $20.
It would be interesting to know if they found it.
And how, pray tell, would you tell it from any other $10 bill?
Pssst....its not about the $10.
The students were separated and monitored by teachers of the same sex as the students. Unfortunately there are way too many cases of teachers molesting children every year.
I agree with the upset parent, being hired as a public school teacher/principle does not give you the right to demand that your students undress, regardless of the circumstances. Teachers/Principles are not trained or authorized under any statute to act as police.
What if it was the kid's idea? They wanted to prove they didn't steal? I don't know, does that make a difference? I think it does.
Well? Who had the 10 bucks?
LOL
there are places in Dubai that would accomodate ya LOOL
And some kids still respect the authority of teachers and principals and wouldn't say no if they wanted to.
no crap...I mean jeez, maybe a Hundy or something....but a 10?
So issues of discipline and stealing in the school are resolved at the student's discretion?!?
When I was in first grade, we we doing "crafts" and making puppets with paper bags or something like that. The teacher told everyone "do not take more than one bag," and someone ended up using two. She kept everyone from lunch until the culprit fessed up. We almost missed lunch. Funny thing was, it was my cousin that did it and the pressure of everyone waiting must have gotten to him. I'm glad he finally fessed up or I'd still be sitting there.
"Green said the disrobing was nothing different from what the children would have done for gym class."
You mean to tell me adults pat down naked kids before gym? What kind of a sick school is this?
/sarcasm......geez...comparing a strip search to changing for gym is truly a ridiculous comparison.
And what the heck was so important about the missing 10 bucks that they had to search kids at all?
It looks like some teachers just wanted to be able to exert some power trip and used the 10 bucks as an excuse...no good teacher would take that much time out of a class to look for somebody's missing 10 bucks (or frankly, even 1 minute out of class...if you lose it, tough luck)....and certainly nobody would resort to searching a bunch of students for no reason (no indication they were seen taking the money), much less a strip search.
