Dear Mr. President: Please cancel your inaugural festivities and give the money to tsunami victims. Sincerely, Mark Cuban.

The Dallas Mavericks owner is urging readers of his Web log ( blogmaverick.com) to contact politicians and tell them to get their priorities straight. In an emphatic missive on his Web site, Mr. Cuban criticizes Congress for making what he calls frivolous expenditures and chastises everyone involved with elaborate inaugural events.

It's not Bush's money to transfer.

Appy, who issues the funds? I am curious if it is the current admin or some other group outside of the WH.

Why do they have to cancel the inaugural in order to give money to tsunami relief?

Most of it comes from private funds if I remember correctly.

Anyway, tsunami relief is rapidly becoming a hole to throw money in.

Does anyone know Mr. Cuban's political leanings? I am wondering if he would be saying anything different if a different man were about to be inaugurated.

A better question: Why don't we cancel the Mavericks?

Showboater.

Exactly. If Cuban hadn't been such a hot head since he took over the Mavericks, he'd have an extra MILLION DOLLARS to give the tsunami victims. Instead, the NBA took it from him in fines for getting in the referees faces or trashing them in the press.

Although it's an intriguing idea

I'm sorry, but what is it exactly that you find "intriguing"?

If it's canceling the inauguration, he can get in line behind the other countless sourpusses who resent the idea of Republicans ever ever ever getting to celebrate George W. Bush's election to the Presidency and have been "suggesting" this absurd and mean little notion since shortly after the first wave hit.

If it's that George Bush should donate to the relief fund, he has with his OWN money.

The NBA owners should disband for a year and donate all of the salaries of the players to the Tsunami relief fund. I am only half joking.

As much as Cuban and NBA owners pay some of their players they have no room to criticize the Government.

People are running around whining like President Bush is the first president to ever have an inauguration. Good grief.

If this were a democratic Presidential inauguration, would he be so quick to offer such a suggestion?

Like Mr. Cuban is a rich man, the USA is a VERY rich nation. We can afford both the party and the aid to those in need.

Mr. Cuban should realize that a person (or nation) of great wealth doesn't have to make choices. They can have it all.

maybe he should cancel the contracts of his overpaid players, pay them what they're really worth, and donate the balance to tsunami relief ? Oh, and eliminate any income he makes since being in sports is play, anyway ?

Link to the list of contributors. I'm heading out, but I think some very easy research would find that most are donating separately to the tsunami relief.
