Warm Weather Causing Allergies

ATLANTA (AP) -- The recent unusual warm spell in the South has brought people out in shorts and tee-shirts in January. Its also brought about another warm-weather phenomenon - allergies.
Atlanta doctors and pharmacists are reporting an upsurge in sniffles, sneezes and coughs.
This year, theyre from allergies, not winter colds.
Pharmacists have been faced with restocking shelves with allergy medicines such as Claritin. Even herbal remedies have been hot sellers off the shelves.
Doctor Keith Phillips, of Emory University, says its mold not pollen that is causing the early allergies. He said mold thrives in warmer weather and grows on vegetation that has died during the winter.
Atlanta received a surprise New Years gift of warm weather starting on December 29. Its been in the 60s every day since.
Yeah, it screwed up our ski trip to Beech Mountain. We're still holding out hope for President's Day weekend. But then again, let's hear it for golf!
Want to see something really ugly?

What is that - a fairway? FORE!
Looks like a great time to plant something! And like they say, early planting produces, well, an early crop!
Does the fact that my dogs are profusely shedding portend anything?
Much more vacuuming before Valentine's Day?
Dogs shedding, bulbs blooming.
Not in the Sierras. Five days ago I was driving through a raging blizzard to ski on 5 feet of fresh powder that had fallen on a 4 ft. base. And there's another 5 feet coming.
Dang...we get enough hot weather here in Georgia. The temps right now are ok, just don't let it get hotter! I always remember what my aunt used to say though. "It don't get cold enough to kill a bug!" I wonder if the bug population will be worse this year.
Record highs in Mobile.77 Tuesday.
From what I heard, it should be the opposite - just as long as snow and freezing temps eventually make it to your area. Apparently, bugs are both frisky and stupid. They're out there right now doing what they normally do in the spring. Little baby bugs are being made - and BLAMO - freezing temps will wipe them all out.
I've been to Beech when it looked just about like that. Some open slush with connecting paths to other open slush.
We had some flurries a couple of weeks ago. I'm done. The stores better start restocking the KINGSFORD!
Hey, it would be great if y'all would send up a few prayers for snow - there are four ski operations in the area and all are family-owned, great people who hire a lot of folks and give them work - 30% of the entire season's revenue is generated from MLK weekend, and it looks like that might be a bust. So, just a few nights below 35 and some flurries would help....
Just put on one of those rubber dishwashing gloves (not exam gloves) and pet the couch or sweater; voila - the hair rolls right up, similar to the way you might clean the lint trap on your clothes dryer.
We're "pet free", but the way he demonstrated it sure looked like it worked.
He had other hints too - and wifey tried this one: when threading a needle, lick the eye of the needle, not the thread; the moisture kind of sucks the thread in.
Great weather in Birmingham too:
January 9 Sunday

January 10 Monday
Mostly Cloudy

January 11 Tuesday

January 12 Wednesday

January 13 Thursday

January 14 Friday

I guess that explains why the water in the birds' water dish was frozen this morning. < /sarcasm >
My kids wore shorts outside on new Year's Day here in Atlanta.
