The network also plans to end "Capital Gang," the long-running Saturday night panel show created by Novak, later this year.
CNN, which lost the services of conservative pundit Tucker Carlson to MSNBC yesterday, immediately signaled plans to get rid of his former program, "Crossfire," the 22-year-old shout show that gave birth to dozens of high-decibel cable slugfests.
CNN/U.S. President Jonathan Klein sided yesterday with comedian Jon Stewart, who used a "Crossfire" appearance last fall to rip the program as partisan hackery. "I think he made a good point about the noise level of these types of shows, which does nothing to illuminate the issues of the day," Klein said in an interview. Viewers need "useful" information in a dangerous world, he said, "and a bunch of guys screaming at each other simply doesn't accomplish that."
CNN plans to incorporate "Crossfire" debate segments with the remaining hosts -- Democratic strategists James Carville and Paul Begala and conservative columnist Robert Novak, plus a right-leaning replacement for Carlson -- into the afternoon program "Inside Politics."

She had Lasik surgery..stopped wearing her glasses..couldn't get a job..married a dairy farmer from North Dakota, and now has a profitable business artificially inseminating Hlsteins..
Is that true about Stewart's ratings? If you could post a source I'd love to look at it. I don't find it hard to believe that the smirking Stewart isn't getting the audience the hype would have us believe.
Yes, I used to love the early days of Crossfire with Pat and crochety old Tom Braden. It somehow seemed more interesting then. It was a much more humble show, with a simple set and no audience. I think that was part of the appeal.
Your right..what happened to that brainless twit who PMSNBC hailed as the "star of tomorrow,,today!" Probably ran off with some sheik or something like that Queen Noor ho
Oh really? He's the moron who made the comment about bloggers in their pajamas.
But he already made two good moves. Actions count more than words.
And I guess the Daily Show will give them that useful information, huh?
Yeah, right.
Begalla and Carville ruined Crossfire for me. I liked the old Crossfire Shows. When they put the arrogant (Know it All) Democrat Spinners on, i went over to Fox. Now I hardly watch CNN because of their slant.
And what was the other move? Siding with the likes of Stewart?

The best "Crossfire" moment ever.
Making stupid comments about Stewart is not making a managerial decision. Obviously, his biggest weakness other than being a liberal weany is having a big mouth.
I remember that moment. The other one is Carville cracking an egg on his face on Meet the Press.
He's a pompous elitist ass who looked down his nose at us. I wouldn't give him the sweat off my youknowwhat.
May he be remembered as nothing but a failure during his tenure.
99% of the time, the host allows the leftist gets the first and last word in, even on fox. 100% of the time, as soon as the conservative starts making his/her point, or successfully scores a point against the leftist, the decibel level goes up for the rest of the "Interview", while the leftest does his or her best to shout down, ridicule, or otherwise attack the integrity of the conservative, while never addressing the issues the conservative raised.
RARELY will you see a conservative shouting at, interrupting, or cutting off his opponent, at least until late in the game, after he or she have tried unsuccessfully for about 10 minutes to complete a sentence before being cut off. On every cable or network program except the Fox ones, the host either facilitates the farce, repeatedly directing softball questions to the leftist, changes the subject as the conservative responds, or criticises the conservative if he or she asks the Democrat-leftist to show some decorum on the set.
Therefore, I have little interest in these gab-fests. I'd rather take an intelligent Limbaugh or Hannity monologue, or read an article by Will, Counter, Novak, or others including those few intelligent beings from the political left, than waste 30 minutes watching some obnoxious idiot behave like an eight year old.
Seriously, I'd love to see a host SLAP one of these obnoxious, left-wing guys or gals and tell them to "Shut up, grow up, and wait your turn!". And that specifically includes some of the "elected" officials who pop in to play "tough guy" for their lowest-common-denominator constituencies.
SFS
Does this mean that Begala will go permanently back to the sewer?
I haven't watched Capital Gang for quite some time. For the last show, I'd like to see Bob Novack punch out Mark Shields.
I'd like to take Joe Klein's words at face value. But isn't it more likely he's using "decibles" as an excuse to rid his network of the few conservatives they do have, to rid his network of the only 50-50 (sorta) balanced shows they have? It's like the Democrats whose only time they worry about government spending is when the military budget comes up.
Whatever happened to Tom Braden? Did he die?
