NEW YORK - Scores of advocacy groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood, assailed new Justice Department guidelines for treating rape victims Thursday because the detailed procedures make no mention of emergency contraception as an option that could spare some women an unwanted pregnancy....

This is a difficult situation - Despite my own personal disgust with these so-called "Advocacy Groups" I'm not sure they are wrong on this point.

I understand your point and don't disagree with you, but barring the rape of a young girl, who among the adult population doesn't know about the morning after pill?

There are very few times I would support using this type of thing and I have to say I would not be able to stand in the way of a rape victim if that is her decision.

If a woman or girl is raped by a stranger, pregnancy is not even the worst thing that could happen to her. There are serious STDs that can ravage your system, diseases, and AIDS.
When a woman is raped she needs to seek medical help immediately so that she can be, cleaned out. When Nuns were raped this is also how it was dealt with. Hopefully, any STD that she might have had will be stopped in it's tracks, medications will be given etc.
Also there is also a little something called "Date Rape." A woman drinks way too much and it doesn't matter if the man is also intoxicated. If they end up sleeping together, it is rape.

What if the rape victim is already pregnant but doesn't know it yet? Just a thought that came to my mind. I would assume that would be checked before just handing out a pill.

EC is not the abortion pill. Also, if I was raped, I'd ask for AIDS pills aD

Well of course they are going to "front" this issue. Really, it's just a setup. Their real intentions are to continue murder inc. If they can make people believe this is what their groups stands for, well they can continue doing what they are doing.
It's may be all part of some Democrats "seeming" conservative. Have you ever met someone who was against abortion even in rape cases?

Very little chance of getting pregnant if she reports it to the police and goes to the hospital.

In your scenario where both the man and the woman are intoxicated, I'm curious, which one is the rapist?

I meant what if she was already pregnant before being raped. But didn't know it yet. Another possibility would be a woman who is already pregnant and does know it and crying "wolf" about the rape. I would just hope they would check it out before just giving a pill.

Also there is also a little something called "Date Rape." A woman drinks way too much and it doesn't matter if the man is also intoxicated. If they end up sleeping together, it is rape. Crap.
If she doesn't say no and is not forced or surreptitiously drugged it's not rape.
You cheapen the horror of real rape by allowing irresponsible people to claim ex post facto rape after they change their minds later.

I know there are some tests that pick up pregnancy very early. But then again some women don't produce the hormone in sufficient amounts to show up that early. I will say I know a woman who was raped on a cruise ship by one of the crew. She had and kept the baby. He is a beautiful child. I could totally understand giving him up for adoption but she chose to keep him.

The man of course.
Date Rape is when a woman drinks too much and ends up sleeping with a man, he can be sober or drunk too.
I don't really understand "Date rape." There are a few gray areas, like when the woman is too drunk to say no.
We cannot blame the woman, but aren't people supposed to be held accountable for things they do or let people do to them when they are drunk. If a woman were to get in a car and drive drunk that's a crime, but if a woman were to get in a car with a stranger drunk, and he "date rapes" her, aren't they both at fault.
?? I really don't know

But in this situation who is the rapist and who is the rapee?

Good example. Most women either keep or give up babies...the abortion rate is less than one percent of all abortions.

The "morning after pill" really isn't. It's a series of pills and must be taken within no more than 3 days of sexual activity. It "prevents implantation of the fertilized egg to the uterine wall." If a woman is already pregnant, the pills will make her sick but they will not cause an abortion.

What if the man is sober as Sunday morning? And she is trashed and can barely walk?

Wow. I don't see how they can blame one party if both were drunk. If just the woman was drunk and the guy is sober I can see that being a rape. The reverse also. Either way one party would be taking advantage of the other. But how would you really know who was drunk after a certain amount of time.
