LAWSUIT: I BEDDED CARL'S WIFE
WATERGATE sleuth Carl Bernstein - partly credited with forcing President Richard Nixon from office - has a new foe to battle.
A man who claims he's a longtime lover of Bernstein's wife has filed a $16.4 million suit against the couple for branding him a stalker and having him falsely arrested. A police officer also is listed as a defendant.
Jeffrey Silver, an investor in his late 50s and the father of four, claims he had a romantic relationship with Bernstein's spouse - former model Christine Kuehbeck - that went on until just five days before she filed a "stalking and harassment complaint" against him last August.
In papers filed in Manhattan federal court, Silver says the complaint and an order of protection against him were dismissed by the Manhattan district attorney's office. A spokeswoman for DA Robert Morgenthau told The Post's Carl Campanile the case is sealed.
"The only true 'stalker' or 'harasser' in this sordid story was Bernstein himself," Silver insists in the lawsuit.
But Bernstein's lawyer, Jonathan Abady, said: "This complaint is an outrageous falsehood and was filed in a clear effort to extract money from an internationally respected author and journalist and to slander a wonderful woman. Carl Bernstein and his wife have filed formal complaints against Mr. Silver with the NYPD and the Manhattan DA's office for making death threats against them, continual harassment and stalking, and other abusive conduct.
"We are anxious for the truth to be known about Mr. Silver's motivations and actions - including his record of bizarre and violent behavior against others as well."
In biting language, Silver's complaint charges that Bernstein was "obsessed" with stopping him from seeing his wife and was sending him threatening messages. Silver also accuses the journalist of trying to pick up his 25-year-old daughter in the late 1990s.
The suit claims Kuehbeck confided to Silver that Bernstein suffered from bizarre behavior, including "bipolar disorder-like tendencies," and complained of his "sexual inadequacy."
"Within the first two weeks of the purported marriage [in 2003], Kuehbeck twice had sexual trysts with [Silver]," the suit alleges. Kuehbeck, in a statement filed with authorities, claimed she only had a brief relationship with Silver in 1994. Silver says he submitted voluminous evidence to prosecutors claiming she lied.
To bad dueling has been outlawed!
Exactly. I can say without a doubt that if it were my wife her butt would be out on the street and his ass would be kicked, repeatedly.
I've seen that film but didn't realize it's supposed to be Bernstein. Interesting.
Oh yes. I remember that one. I even paid good money to see it *blech*
Does this rise to the level of watergate?
My question is, Does this rise to the level of Free Republic?
probably just a third-rate adultery...
I did not appreciate his left-leaning talking-head comments during the 2000 election.
Sounds like a class neighborhood.
Hey, maybe Bernstein was Deep Throat.......remember Watergate was before Viagra.
What did the leftie reporter know and when did he know it?
BWA HA HA HA HA!
Too bad it didn't happen to Woodward, so the stalker could claim Bill Casey backed him up.
A festering cesspool of typical democrat character pathology, all vile liberal excuses for human beings.
I believe during Watergate he was married to Nora Ephron who infamously skewered his philandering hide in "Heartburn".
I realize your joke and "got it", but just thought I'd toss in how Bernstein has been known to treat at least one other wife (not sure how often he's been married).
<< Does this rise to the level of watergate? >>
Water is no longer an item on Bernstein's diet.
He's not thirsty -- and drinks only to assauage his Alcoholism.
How former is she?
All of these people need to get a life.
