Seems to me that the humans-in-name-only that we're fighting, while being humans in name only, are technically prisoners of war and are entitled to Geneva Convention protections. I'll admit that I personally don't want these savages to have their own dormitories, athletic facilities, etc., as is apparently mandated under the Geneva Conventions (or some people's interpretation of them), but we must be consistent. Am I wrong here?
Also, apparently some interrogators are being a little over-enthusiastic under the redefinition of torture. I read about one instance in which a prisoner was made so hot he was pulling out his own hair.
Gonzales is in a mess PING!
No, he is not.
No, the ruckus over Gonzales' has little to do with memos. It has to do with undermining Bush's appointees in the Judiciary and Law enforcement.
If Ashcroft was as fierce as thought, he should have opened up investigations on Pardonguilt, FBI recordgate, etc. He should have been forceful in the Jamie Gorelick memo wall as well as her role on the 9/11 commission.
It Bush gets anyone in Justice with Huevos, then guys like Leahy might be in trouble for real for once!
After all, Sandy Berger still has not been arrested and here he is stealing classified documents! Criminal Theft of classified info! And still walking free!
War isn't for sissies or lawyers. It sucks, and it hurts. Folks die. Get a grip.

"...scrutiny from Democrats and members of the media."
And how are these different groups? Sheeesh.
If Leahy does'nt like Gonzales then I'm all for him. nuff said.
Not necessarily.
GOP are getting the hispanic votes because Bush courted them. He won't do anything to stop the early warning about a tsunami flood of illegals.
This nomination is to get the hispanic votes.
They are alienating a larger loyal base of conservatives to run after the minority vote.
Technically, the detainees are NOT prisioners of war. They were not uniformed members of an opposing army. Geneva Conventions do not apply. Politically, this is nothing more than a Bush bashing witchhunt by the Demonrats. Gonzales will be confirmed by the full Senate IMHO.
Pull my fingernails out for this, but TORTURE CAN MAKE PEOPLE ADMIT TO THINGS THEY DIDN'T DO.
Exactly so, John and thanks for reminding us.
Yep.

Ted Olson on Hardball kicking rear!
When Chrissy asked why so many military are against Gonzales, Olson flat out said they're partisans, most of whom worked for Kerry's campaign. He said "they're wrong".
He is expounding more, giving facts and figures.
Go, Ted!
Howlin, Ted Olson is doing a great job on Spitball right now!
Your point is irrelevant to this discussion.
"Despite a good faith effort by the Bush administration to provide Senate Democrats with all relevant information on the nomination, critics continue to expand the scope of their demands, and then cavil loudly about the administration¹s 'secrecy' and 'refusals' when the goal posts are moved," Cornyn said, after taking repeatedly good, long, pulls on his crack pipe.
Alberto Josef Mengele Gonzalez
I was just listening to that; I hope he testifies!
