He said "the Sheriff is a nearer!"

I didn't get a 'Harumph' out of that guy.

It seems this idiot black racist will get his due. The county will suffer the most, and he might just find himself in federal prison.

Oh goody! A Zimbabwe style government right here in the south. After all, it's worked so well in Africa.

As soon as the introductory music started blaring here in my office, I hit "stop" so as not to disturb my coworkers. I didn't even catch the tune. Secret Agent Man - OMG, that is so funny.

You obviously didn't notice my sarcasm with the "yeah, sure" insert. I'm well aware that he needs proof.

Newly elected sheriff here in FL did basically the same thing.

Before he was sworn in he told about 20 people their jobs were no longer needed and they would be terminated his first day of office. Supposedly to save money. No review, no time to observe work ethic. Just up and gone.

He then proceeded to install his political cronies in those positions.

Unfortunately for the people of that county he wasn't quite the dumbass by saying they were going to be let go because of their skin color or that they were majority female. So they're stuck with him.

As usual the AJC writes half a story.Sheriffs are elected in Georgia.Their deputies serve at their pleasure. It has always been understood that a new Sheriff would put his political supporters in as his deputies. In the last 30 years a few counties in Ga. have brought deputies under civil service protection but I am not sure top deputies are covered. It would have been nice if the AJC had checked out the law in Clayton County.

When you announce to the press that all the people you are terminating will be replaced by people of another race, that's a case of blatant racial discrimination in employment. That's illegal here in the United States of America.

Hiring or firing on the basis of race -- black OR white -- is extremely illegal.

Not to mention extremely stupid.

No I have just lived in Ga. long enough to know the history of the state and the law.

Is it any worse to fire someone for the wrong skin color than being in the wrong political party?

You wrote, A new broom sweeps clean. When sorted out, he may have properly exercised his powers as Sheriff. People who can't perform should be replaced.

Civil Service or no, trumped up or no, we all know that in the real world you need some semblence of Just Cause to lay the ax to any particular neck. Managerial political appointments aside, you just can't go around wacking peoples' jobs without expecting having to defend it legally in some fashion.
BTW, unless the entire department was white, Sheriff Superfly has no right to speak in racial terms about possible hires.
