An ESPN caption under a photo of motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel and two women, declaring that "you're never too old to be a pimp,'' was a lighthearted use of teen slang, not a potentially libelous criminal charge, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday. Knievel, 66, and his wife, Krystal, one of the women in the photo, sued ESPN for libel after the photo appeared on the sports network's Web site. But in a 2-1 ruling, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a federal judge's dismissal of the suit. In a display that was obviously composed in a satiric tone for a youthful audience, the court said, no reasonable reader would have interpreted "pimp'' literally. In dissent, Judge Carlos Bea said some reasonable readers could have understood pimp according to its dictionary definition as an exploiter of prostitutes. Citing Knievel's claim that some business clients canceled endorsement deals after the photo appeared, Bea said a jury should decide how the average reader would interpret the caption.

You know you're getting old when you lose your "pimp" appeal.
Isn't this the same court which ruled against the pledge of allegiance? Why am I not surprised.
Clinton says, it depends on the definition of the word "is", "is" and the 9th U.S. Circuit Court again cannot agree on the definition of a word and slander. Now it will be open season on all those Hollywood stars in California.
So again, the 9th opens Pandora's box. But my question is, when will impeachment proceedings begin? Haven't we had enough of this crazy court?
Didn't you hear the man? You're never too old be a pimp.
Evel said so.
It's nice to see that Evel and Kristal have reconciled from their 2002 divorce.

But every one knows that....
PIMPIN' AIN'T EASY!!!
Add to that the unexplainable use of a flat track motorcycle with no discernable suspension and its a wonder he is even alive.
Let's post picture of theis 'judge' and call him publically a limp-d*** jackass!
Do you think he will NOT sue? yeah right! The 9th Circus Court rams it to you again!
Come to think of it, they ALL must be impotent so they show their "machismo" by being the tyrannical "masters" over everyone they can.
Nothing coming out of the 9th Circus Court of Appeals surprises me.
I hope Knievel appeals this, if only on the grounds that while he is certainly not a pimp, the judges from the 9th Circus are most certainly whores hiding behind judicial robes and wouldn't know justice if it showed up at their door with a nametag that said "Hello, I'm Justice, Ask Me About My Grandchildren".
In closing, I remind everyone that 'PIMP' is a four letter word, just like the acronym 'ESPN'.
It may not be easy, but it's necessary.

Actually back in his day that flattracker, especially the Trackmaster Triumph was a good choice. None of the long legged MX bikes were powerful enough or reliable enough to do what he was doing. The XR750 was maybe not the best choice post 1970, but HD paid good bucks even back then.

Actually back in his day that flattracker, especially the Trackmaster Triumph in TT trim was a good choice. None of the long legged MX bikes were powerful enough or reliable enough to do what he was doing. The XR750 was maybe not the best choice post 1970, but HD paid good bucks even back then.
cool bike in its own right - we watched them race at Ascot park in LA back in the 70's - the only thing it had going was a low center of gravity.
It would be funny to take a modern stunt biker back to that time .....they'd shame them quite rapidly LOL
Judge Bea, a very conservative Cuban American, made his bones in the Bush I administration. Given this decision, one can only assume he has moved over to the dark side. If in his courtroom I called him an effing SOB, and then claimed I was only using common slang, I wonder how much time I would serve?
i think your post hit the wrong thread gaspar
have another coffee
So I'm totally stupid? Pimp doesn't mean pimp anymore? It's a compliment? What in the world is the court saying? I'm getting too old to deal with this doublespeak.
No, I think he agrees that the humor and satire make the libel/slander claim absurd.
If he doesn't want to be called a pimp he should stop dressing and acting like one.
Wonder what the court would have ruled if 'gay' was in place of the word 'pimp'?
