O, I wish I was in the land of cotton Old times there are not forgotten Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land. In Dixie Land where I was born in Early on one frosty mornin' Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land. Chorus: O, I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray! In Dixie Land I'll take my stand To live and die in Dixie Away, away, Away down south in Dixie! Old Missus marry Will, the weaver, William was a gay deceiver Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land. But when he put his arm around her He smiled as fierce as a forty pounder Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land. Chorus: O, I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray! In Dixie Land I'll take my stand To live and die in Dixie Away, away, Away down south in Dixie! His face was sharp as a butcher's cleaver But that did not seem to grieve her Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land. Old Missus acted the foolish part And died for a man that broke her heart Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land. Chorus: O, I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray! In Dixie Land I'll take my stand To live and die in Dixie Away, away, Away down south in Dixie!
Dang! That was so beautiful, I'm cryin'.
Duane Allman's song (guitar instrumental) 'Little Martha' was allegedly about an old girlfriend. The girlfriend's name was Dixie, but Duane didn't like the connotations (whatever he thought they were) of a song called 'Little Dixie' so he changed it to 'Little Martha'. I don't know where "Martha" came from.
That's almost an understatement...
My cell phone rings Dixie, my dog's name is Rebel. I'm just a slave-ownin' backwoods freak, I suppose.
Well now.... I'm moth thertainly offended too!
signed- Deceived by William
William was a gay deceiver <--Damn gays
you should check out the manowar version off their most recent cd (or download the mp3). best rendition i've heard in a long time (no, its not metal, just a metal singer doin a damn good job)
I'm black and we used to sing "Dixie" in publik skewl. My parents would have had no problem protesting it if they thought the song was offensive. They did not feel that way. Heck, my mother has relatives named Robert Lee. I liked that "trilogy" of Elvis' and haven't heard it in a long time.
Doesn't that refer to a cannon?
