yes....the Yankees were rather punitive in the Deep South. and a lot of them just burned and some died of neglect. I have over a dozen books on old South landmarks and homes. University Press has done a number by a lady from Tupelo...Mary Carol Miller Amazon carries all her books....they are great. My paternal grandpa's homesite in jackson is now recognized but it's a seminary lyceum now
I frolicked as a lad on those steps and on that lawn.....Gone Are The Days....course it's surrounded by injun country now.

I was going through the pics on the link
I posted, and noticed that the Carousel
is a couple of frames forward.
My family, going back to the time it was
built, have ridden that Carousel.......
even as soon as last summer.
Then we got shaved ice, formerly known as
snowballs. ;o)
