He should get shipped to Jordan or Israel where necessary pressure can be applied, but every effort should be made keep his capture secret<<

I agree. Every effort SHOULD have been made to keep his capture a secret, so that some country not squeamish about torture COULD apply the necessary pressure.

from the dark side

don't think we were trying very hard to catch him.

I think Zarqawi, Bin Laden, and James "Whitey" Bulger are on our "Least Wanted List." Our troops and law enforcement have been ordered to avoid capturing them at any cost

good grief!

This story has hit about 8-10 times in the last year-and-a-half. There's no reason for it to be in Breaking News without better corroboration.

Wasn't it the Kurds who announced the capture of Hussein, as well as now (supposedly) Zarqawi?

Will this help to bring peace or enflame his followers?<<

It takes very little to inflame the followers of terrorists, so this capture means little in that regard.

But the death of any terrorists brings us closer to peace.

URGENT: 'TARGET #1': al-Zarqawi reportedly arrested in Iraq
Tue Jan 04 2005 09:49:47 ET

DUBAI, January 4 (Itar-Tass) - Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, whom the US occupation authorities declared to be the "target number one" in Iraq, has been arrested in the city of Baakuba, the Emirate newspaper al-Bayane reported on Tuesday referring to Kurdish sources. Al-Zarqawi, leader of the terrorist group Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad, was recently appointed the director of the Al-Qaeda organisation in Iraq.

The newspaper's correspondent in Baghdad points out that a report on the seizure of the terrorist, on whom the US put a bounty of 10 million dollars, was also reported by Iraqi Kurdistan radio, which at one time had been the first to announce the arrest of Saddam Hussein.

There have been no official reports about the arrest of the terrorist. Al-Zarqawi, 38, a Jordanian, whose real name is Ahmad al-Khalayleh, aims to turn Iraq into a "new Afghanistan". According to Arab press data, Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad group has divided Iraq into several emirates. The group's independent subdivisions at a strength of 50 to 500 militants operate in the cities of Al-Falluja, Al-Qaim, Diala, and Samarra.

The personnel of the group is on the whole 1,500-strong and includes Iraqis and citizens of Arab and Islamic countries. There are demolition experts and missilemen among them.

The group has depots of weapons and explosives in various parts of the country. It intends to frustrate the upcoming parliamentary elections that are scheduled for the end of this month. Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad threatens to do away with Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi and members of the interim government.

Then again...

IRAQ: US SOURCES DENY REPORTS OF AL-ZARQAWI'S ARREST

Washington, 4 Jan. (AKI) - American military sources have denied the news published on Monday night by the al-Bayan newspaper in the United Arab Emirates claiming that the Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was arrested in Iraq. The denial came directly from a Pentagon spokesman in an interview with the pan-Arab newspaper al-Sharq al-Awsat, published on Tuesday morning. "Al-Zarqawi has not been arrested and the news about his capture is not true," he confirmed.

The report, published on al-Bayan's website, said al-Zarqawi, who is considered al-Qaeda's leader in Iraq, was arrested in Baquba, a city to the north of Baghdad. However, Iraqi officials in charge of security in that area say they know nothing about any capture either. The newspaper said it was a Kurdish radio station in the north of Iraq that first broadcast the news, citing Kurdish sources. Al-Bayan admitted it had no official confirmation to verify the report, but pointed out that it was Kurdistan radio who first announced the capture of Saddam Hussein in December 2003.

Al-Zarqawi's group has claimed responsibility for many deadly suicide attacks in Iraq as well as for kidnapping and beheading several foreign hostages, including the American Nick Berg and the Briton Kenneth Bigley. The US has offered a 25 million dollar reward for the militant.

Cut Zarqawi's nuts off, make him a eunich!! Video tape it and post it on the net, play it on tv, and leave him alive to endure the humiliation.
