President and Mrs. Bush, former Presidents Bush and Clinton visited the embassies of the nations hardest hit by the Asian quake and tsunami: Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand. He asked both (interestingly, Carter didn't make the list) to lead a nationwide charitable fund-raising effort for victims of the Asian tsunamis, through private contributions, non-governmental and international organizations. The White House's Freedom Corps, which helps facilitate volunteer efforts around the country, will assist the two former presidents in soliciting private contributions.
The president hosted a reception for new members elected to Congress and their spouses in the East Room; the swearing-in is tomorrow.
Alert: today's thread is laced with photos of The Impeached One. Other than that, enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
Thanks so much for sending me the pictures. They are good ones as well and I have saved them, too.
I know the one I'm after, and when I come across it I will save it and heaven help my dear sweet son if he decides to clean out my files again!
I appreciate your help.
It was a picture of W on a lawn, there were two other men with him, but when he is in the forefront of the picture, I sure don't notice who anyone else is. It looked like they were about to leave for somewhere or had just returned. He just looked so Churchillian.
Yes, he would be a powerful witness. However, the media might turn on him and make it difficult for him to stay committed to the change. I know for some people - a true commitment makes you strong against those kinds of challenges, but Clinton is not known for being a person of strength to begin with.
About those trips...Most were run by the Commerce Dept. on a pay-to-play basis. The payment went to campaign funds, not the gov't for its costs. Ron Brown gave his life for that sort of thing.
Rats, maybe my letter got lost in the mail :-{
MY EYES....MY EYES....HELP!!!! I'm blinded....the horror. YUCK....I've been slimed!!!!
Off to take a shower!

Da place. Did you bring us back any?
You'll be hooked after three months and will not want to give up cable. Although I almost never watch anything but Fox News, it's nice to have C-Span for special events and occasionally some of those other channels. I don't have any of the pay channels either because I never have time to watch them. I do have music channels and they're kinda nice, especially at Christmas time. You just click on it and music plays all day and night too if you're like me and stay up almost all night.
Clinton can raise lots of money from the Hollywood crowd and at this time, it's the money that's needed. Maybe we can all try to pretend he isn't there. :)
Carter said some awful things about President Bush during the election and President Bush isn't likely to forget anytime soon, especially when Carter isn't needed. Clinton has said some things too, but nothing like Carter did. Also Carter is more communist than Clinton. Although Clinton has no morals, etc., I don't think he's quite as evil as Carter and Hillary Clinton. With that said, I still cannot stomach him.
It will be interesting to see how many times C-Span shows the event today. They seem to have forgotten that Bush is President now, rather than Clinton, because anytime they can get a pic or speech of Clinton, they show it over and over, while not even showing some of the most important events of President Bush. You probably wouldn't see this except on Fox, had Clinton not been involved.
I hadn't seen this one before .. what a rascal .. ;-)
I got my letter from President Bush and compared the handwriting, how he makes certain letters, etc., plus having what you gave as a start, it looks like he says:
We pray for the victims of
this horrible disaster
and we stand firmly
with the people of India "as she overcomes" OR "on this occasion".
Not sure about those last three words. Looking at how he makes a capital T, it looks like the next to last word might be "this" and if you decide that's the correct word, then the last word actually looks like "occasion". :)
I think they look quite different.
GOP-Pat, I do believe you've nailed it in your sleuth report at post 253 -- what W wrote at the embassy.
I'm gld he had some vacation (finally!) but it's comforting to have him back in DC and close to those peripatetic photographers. Our blessing has to be, at times, his bane.
Thanks for the link. I really appreciate you alerting me to these -- you find some good ones, oftentimes, ones I haven't seen yet.
As someone wrote last night, this governor's election situation is heating up -- seems the dems got too greedy in overplaying their hand when they stuffed the ballot boxes, leaving far too big of a trail ...
I was heartened to see on the news last night that a new Washington State poll showed 58 percent of my fellow Washingtonians want a revote, vs. 38 percent who don't. I'm surprised by the desire for fair play when the dems were poised to steal this thing; it makes me have hope for the libs in this area.
Bubba did say that the criticisms that W didn't get out in front of the tsunami aid issue were "a bum rap." Once in a while he meanders into the truth. I think in this case it was because he put himself in W's shoes; and probably had gotten a phone call from W very early on in the hours following the tsunami news.
You're welcome.
Someone's gotta do it -- the old media sure aren't!
The prominent piece played at our wedding - on harp. :o)
