Let the fence-mending begin. According to a Broadcasting & Cable source in Washington, D.C., CBS News president Andrew Heyward, along with Washington bureau chief Janet Leissner, recently met with White House communications director Dan Bartlett, in part to repair chilly relations with the Bush administration.
CBS News popularity at the White Housenever high to begin withplunged further in the wake of Dan Rathers discredited 60 Minutes story on George Bushs National Guard service.
An incentive for making nice is the impending report from the two-member panel investigating CBS's use of now-infamous documents for the 60 Minutes piece.
Heyward was working overtime to convince Bartlett that neither CBS News nor Rather had a vendetta against the White House, our source says, and from here on out would do everything it could to be fair and balanced. CBS declined to comment.
Sometimes it takes quite a few of us to descipher what each word in every sentence means.
Too bad we can't diagram sentences on here; imagine what we'd discover.
working overtime to convince Bartlett that neither CBS News nor Rather had a vendetta against the White House,
None of this is a denial of any vendetta! For instance, I can work overtime to convince you all that I am Mel Gibson, but that don't make it so, and trust me (especially you ladies), I ain't no Mel Gibson.
W does not need any more lieing, disloyal press ginning up their own agenda.
The MSM should continue schmoozing the democrats.
It's been impending for two months now.
White House to Mr. Heyward
" Go somewhere else and suck"
Have a full month of 60 Minutes episodes where the lead story is about Democrat corruption or the abuse of power by cherished liberal icons (judges, wildlife biologists, urban planners, etc.) and I'll believe this guy's promise. Not holding my breath though.
That's very good.
Very clever!!!!
"I have stopped listening to what men say, and just watch what they do."
Awesome graphic!
Ahhh, the kind of response a father of chronically-embarrassed teenagers longs for but seldom gets. Thanks!
Yea, and scorpions don't sting "Oh NO Mr. President, we never MEANT to forge those documents, er, I mean run with those forged documents. And Oh NO Mr. President, ignoring all those other people who were willing to come on our program and set the record straight, well, you know, all those supporters of yours were just too stupid. After all, you're the dumbest president we ever covered... How'd you win again??"
Yeah, make nice, if I were Bush I would very politely pull out a map of Northern Alaska and suggest that they go french kiss an iceberg when it's 30 below. And if they get their tongue back, to do it again...

Obviously, CBS will be "fair and balanced" from now on. They failed to unseat Bush and Bush will no longer be up for re-election. As for the Republican nominee in '08, CBS will be back with it's liberal bile and with a vengeance.
This "visit" by Heyward may be a lot more important than simply "fence-mending" or "damage control". Heyward may have recently received a memo of his own from the Justice Department. I find it interesting that "CBS declined to comment".
W could be generous, they could pay it in yearly installments instead of all at once.
CBS's propaganda efforts go WAY back.... and that would include Walter Cronkite.
