A HIGH IQ is a hindrance for women wanting to get married, while it is an asset for men, according to a study by four British universities.
The study found the likelihood of marriage increased by 35 per cent for males for each 16-point increase in IQ.
But for females, there was a 40 per cent drop for each 16-point rise.
The findings, by the universities of Aberdeen, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, were published in Britain's Sunday Times newspaper.
The study was based on the IQs of 900 males and females between their 10th and 40th birthdays.
Paul Brown, a psychologist and professor at Nottingham University, told the Sunday Times: "Women in their late 30s who have gone for careers after the first flush of university and who are among the brightest of their generation are finding that men are just not interesting enough."
Writer and broadcaster Claire Rayner said intelligent men often prefered a less brainy partner.
"A chap with a high IQ is going to get a demanding job that is going to take up a lot of his energy and time.
"In many ways he wants a woman who is an old-fashioned wife and looks after the home, a copy of his mum in a way."
My observations have shown me that they have a desire to have a fling with someone lower, but actually tend to "marry up."
I'm such a phool. ;O)
Sarah Weddington, the Jane Roe attorney, had an abortion. Had to have it in Mexico, however. One reason why she became a crusader for abortion.
Boy, this thing just opened up another can of worms! Let the fights begin! :D
I personally cannot understand that. Why would you want to spend the rest of your life with someone that you would constantly have to be explaining everything to?
Unless, of course, the idea is to re-inforce one's bad opinion of men...aka mouth breathing perverts. Ugh. My husband is much, much smarter than I am in math, but he cannot spell to save his life. Therefore, he balances the checkbooks, and I proofread his resume. :)
Besides, most of the time I wasn't even watching the football. I fell asleep around six. ;O(
Take fighter pilots for instance.
Don't know about fighter pilots but I do know about sailors and which girls they went for in my highschool class! LOL
That is what has always puzzled me about them doing that. These are just personal observations on people that I have known. It is like the women who jump from one abusisve relationship to another. If they ever meet anyone who tries to be good to them, they aren't interested.
Very true. In my younger days, I used to swear I had-'scuse the language here-a$$hole radar. Then I wised up and realized that I wasn't demanding enough of myself, and therefore was settling for worse treatment than I deserved as a result.
After that epiphany is when I met Mr. Ex.
However, there are some women out there (and I state this from personal observation) that seem to take great pleasure in being able to denigrate their husbands. Like any other abuser, they feel the need to control others through humiliation.
Actually, they tend to "marry up", and cheat.
Well some people just don't hit on all eight. And some people just don't fit. Finally you figure it out and stay by yourself.
Mathematicians cannot spell. Deal with it.
Exactly...that's why we have worked things out the way we have.
Hey, looks like I missed all the fun! :-)
Apparently you are on the very long list that knew my ex-wife as well or better than I did.
That works, too. :)
Well done. Keep it up!
I know people who are flying to Cuba to bring back a bride. The U.S. doesn't allow direct flights, so they stop off in So. America, then fly there.
American women are not interested in these working men. It is sad. One of them said he dated a lady, she said after one date, you are not what I am looking for and don't want to ever see you again.
What a slap in the face.
You snooze, you lose!
