A HIGH IQ is a hindrance for women wanting to get married, while it is an asset for men, according to a study by four British universities.
The study found the likelihood of marriage increased by 35 per cent for males for each 16-point increase in IQ.
But for females, there was a 40 per cent drop for each 16-point rise.
The findings, by the universities of Aberdeen, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, were published in Britain's Sunday Times newspaper.
The study was based on the IQs of 900 males and females between their 10th and 40th birthdays.
Paul Brown, a psychologist and professor at Nottingham University, told the Sunday Times: "Women in their late 30s who have gone for careers after the first flush of university and who are among the brightest of their generation are finding that men are just not interesting enough."
Writer and broadcaster Claire Rayner said intelligent men often prefered a less brainy partner.
"A chap with a high IQ is going to get a demanding job that is going to take up a lot of his energy and time.
"In many ways he wants a woman who is an old-fashioned wife and looks after the home, a copy of his mum in a way."
"Our heart is ultimately depicted on our faces."
If only I had said that at the start of my comments.
I agreed with you in my post #232
But for females, there was a 40 per cent drop for each 16-point rise.
On the bright side, there was a 50 percent increase in number of cats owned....
Be smart: Don't be a b**ch.
My guess is that it's because women tend to marry up. And the smarter they are, the more likely they are to be successful, and have a more limited choice of more successful men.
Personally, brains are a major turn on.
:O
Seems we might have been cross-posting. Apology for any confusion.
Yes you did. I'll slow down a bit here.
I understand where you're coming from, gunrunner - and agree.
When I was a senior in high school in the middle of all the feminist turmoil in a very, very liberal place (Massachusetts. 1975), I made that exact comment to a couple of girls in my class. Then I followed up by telling my drummer's mom, a sweet and bright lady, "isn't it so great that girls today can have careers, and they don't have to waste their lives like you did?" (She was very well educated at one of the seven sisters, and she and her husband raised three great kids and one crumb, which was his fault and not theirs).
I don't know if I'm any more tactful than I was at 16 but I am not as much of a jerk. I hope. She would have been within her rights to knock my block off for that boneheaded blurt.

I like Mensa girls.
I'll bet you do! LOL

The hand that rocks the cradle is all important.
I was at a Summer resort. There was a very petite little girl who was on the staff. She was pretty as a speckled pup, also sweet natured.
One day I was in the staff laundry on other business. There were three Japanese students and this girl doing their laundry. I happened to notice the three Japanese boys looking like they were hypnotized. I turned to see what they were looking at and She was bending over the dryer getting her clothes out.
Now what was that supposed to mean?
His reply? "She's the smartest woman I ever met."
Oh my...you were lucky to escape unscathed!! LOL Sounds like you learned from that painful incident, though. :)
Your second sentence in #21 is the most succinct description of Hillary Clinton I have yet to read.
(Assuming Webb H. is Chelsea's daddy, or some anonymous sperm bank donor)
That 'smart woman' doesn't have time to rock the cradle--the illegal immigrant nanny does that while Smart Wife is off at Important Business Meetings.
The nanny isn't very bright, but the kids speak Spanish now :)
Who cares how smart a wife is if she's never home?
