Brainy girls have marriage handicap

A HIGH IQ is a hindrance for women wanting to get married, while it is an asset for men, according to a study by four British universities.

The study found the likelihood of marriage increased by 35 per cent for males for each 16-point increase in IQ.

But for females, there was a 40 per cent drop for each 16-point rise.

The findings, by the universities of Aberdeen, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, were published in Britain's Sunday Times newspaper.

The study was based on the IQs of 900 males and females between their 10th and 40th birthdays.

Paul Brown, a psychologist and professor at Nottingham University, told the Sunday Times: "Women in their late 30s who have gone for careers after the first flush of university and who are among the brightest of their generation are finding that men are just not interesting enough."

Writer and broadcaster Claire Rayner said intelligent men often prefered a less brainy partner.

"A chap with a high IQ is going to get a demanding job that is going to take up a lot of his energy and time.

"In many ways he wants a woman who is an old-fashioned wife and looks after the home, a copy of his mum in a way."

For every study they put out there is another study that contradicts that study. You can skew the result by only incorporating the data you want and excluding the data that doesn't fit your purpose. Statistics can be manipulated to fit the study.

Look at the Atkins diet...one study says it's good for you (paid for by Atkins) and a reverse study that Atkins is bad for you (paid for by the OJ makers, (since no one would drink OJ anymore if they were on that diet)).

You're correct there is intelligence quotient and an EMOTIONAL quotient...therefore a genius can have no social skills and be VERY lonely...

Too many times I've seen the "smart" woman looking for a competitor, not a companion. Not good for a relationship.

"When their biological clock has ticked down they realize they have been sold a "bill of goods" and become very bitter."

Say. . .around age 40 and, of course, no man will be interested in her at that time. . .and for good reason.

"Welfare queens have lots of kids because the kids are still assets... more government money."

I think welfare queens and their ilk have lots of kids because people of lower intelligence have fewer outlets than do people of higher intelligence.

Think about it. If you don't have a job, or a hobby, or anything to engage you, where are you going to channel your creative energies? You guessed it, sex. That may explain why more intelligent people tend to practice birth control.

"No man is good enough. There is an endless array of childless post-menopausal babes who will spend the rest of their bitter lives drinking or on anti-depressants."

And they will be watching Lifetime TV for affirmation that the mess they made of their life in not their fault, but HIS.

It is far better to hear about the issues while they are still current events.

Come now! Between my mom, my wife, and my two daughters, I KNOW that hearing about issues that are current events does NOT preclude hearing about them when they are ancient history.

Heck, I hear a lot of future issues as well - just so I won't be surprised when they become current!

I think what he is saying is a few attractive girls who have poor personalities and bad temperament can still get by on their looks.

When they lose their looks they have nothing left.

"It is far better to hear about the issues while they are still current events. :)"

yeah. . .but do we have to hear about them over and over and over and over. . . .again?

Isn't there a sell-by-date on past wrongs (or perceived wrongs)? . . . .Just asking. . .not complaining. . .nope, not me. . .

Men want a woman whose intelligence is about 10 percentage points close to theirs. If the woman is too smart or too dim-witted, its a drain on the relationship. IQ compatibility does help a relationship last in that you find a partner whose ability to keep up with you matches your own and who doesn't overpower you. Human Relationships 101.
