The nails don't go through the head. You don't need a head, just arms and legs to crucify a body. It seems like a classic case of 'overkill', but that's the Saudis.

It seems to me that how is a minor question. After all, its just crucifying a headless body. Or behead them after they're crucified.

But the WHY ... that's the salient point.

You behead someone as a quick method of execution. You crucify someone as a slow means of execution. It seems that the two means of execution are at loggerheads here.

Of course, this is Islam we're talking about here so logic takes a holiday.

It sounds to me like they used the equivalent of the portable guillotine, and placed this miscreant's body on display for public education purposes.
