Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005 12:19 p.m. EST Irked Kofi Grilled on Vacation

The press is still complaining that President Bush was missing-in-action for the first two days after South Asia's devastating tsunami disaster, but only one reporter has challenged U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan on why he was out of commission for even longer.

When he finally returned from his skiing holiday, Annan was questioned by Fox Newsman Jonathan Hunt about why he continued his vacation well into the week as the staggering death toll mounted.

"I think a lot of people are asking exactly why you waited three days on vacation in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, before you decided to fly back to New York in the face of this extraordinary crisis," Hunt asked during a Thursday press conference in New York. "Could you give us a full explanation of your thinking on that?" Hunt continued. "Secondly, what kind of signal does that 72-hour delay send to the nations to which you are now appealing for greater help?"

Obviously irked by the inquiry, Annan replied:

"First of all, there was action. It wasn't inaction. We live in a world where you can operate from wherever you are . . . You don't have to be physically here to be dealing with the leaders and the governments I have been dealing with. You don't have to be physically here to be discussing with some of the agencies that we have done."

The angry Secretary General then barked, "I don't have to be sitting in my office to take action. I think the same goes for you in your profession."

Jonathon Hunt really deserves some kind of award for "irking" the UN elite.
There's something about his English accent that seems to drive them right over the edge.

YOU are PREACHING to the choir! Amen BROTHER...can I hear anyone TESTIFY!

In all seriousness...I agree...but we allowed those crooks and criminals to corrupt our world leadership to avoid blackmail.

We have many many MANY dirty little secrets and tons of skeletons in closets thanks to criminal behavior between our leaders and others in that corrupt club...too much for many to lose therefore it will never go away...it is a club for the rich and powerful element to hide in and behind...

They don't fit the definition of gentlemen that I'm familiar with. Besides the behavior that you describe, do you remember the incident within the last couple of years when the food service people at the UN walked out? The esteemed upper crust at the Tower of Babel on the East side looted the dining facilities of everything they could carry off. Food, silver, dishes and especially the liquor.

Civilized people? Hardly.

Give Kofi a break, he needed that hard-earned ski vacation. All that corruption and graft takes its toll on a man. Think of all the long hours Kofi Sr. worked to funnel Saddam's blood money into Kofi Jr.'s front-company. It's tough being a petty socialist dictator, especially when you have to deal with us damned incorrigible Americans. Besides, he wasn't just skiing, it was a "working vacation": Kofi was scoping out a new location for his personal ski chalet and villa (once he succeeds in subverting the US to the iron-fisted rule of the UN and crowns himself King of the World).

We must end U.S. involvement in this corrupt organization of tyrants, socialists, and America-haters. Get the United Nations out of the U.S. and get the U.S. out of the United Nations!

This news reporter sounds like someone to keep an eye on to get to the story and report it the way it is. I don't know much about him, but the question he put to that corrupt monkey sure seems to set him apart from the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" crowd of so called "journalists" who would rather make up news that is biased.

I must disagree. It's a far cry from a "gentlemen's club". It is indeed a group of arrogant do-nothing elitists, but there isn't the slightest resemblance to a gentlemen among the hoard of thieves that comprise the majority of it's membership.

Careful with the use of the word "monkey". President Bush can be called a monkey. He can be pictured as made of monkeys. Since Anan is "kofi" colored, you must not use that reference or the full wrath of the left will descend on you. (Irony ahead full!)

Jackson Hole, eh? These America-despising UN officials sure enjoy themselves over here, don't they?

In the red states, no less!

But obviousely President Bush has to be in the Oval Office in the White House to take action and can not do it from his ranch at Crawford

"It's indeed a bummer when one has to cut short a vacation with the hookers to return to work (or whatever it is that he does)."

Kofi is going down. By the way what kind of name is Kofi? Sounds like a name you might want to call your Chihuahua.

He claims to have 'taken action'.
Yeah, right.
What EXACTLY did he do? Call up a lackey, who then did nothing, between ski runs?

In the meantime, President Bush mobilized vast resources - planes were touching down in Thailand even before the anointed Kofi Annan could be coaxed off the slopes.

Then he claims to have 'been working'.
What did he mobilize?
There are no UN people on the ground in the affected areas. No UN relief to be seen. Nothing has been mobilized.

Then the biggest laugh was at the end of Kofi's response... he planned a meeting NEXT WEEK!

Unreal.
