If Sen. John F. Kerry [related, bio] had his way, he'd be lobbying foreign leaders, leaning on Congress and mapping a new Supreme Court from the White House wings.
Instead, his government interaction last week was limited mostly to the arcane world of City Hall and the Beacon Hill Architectural Commission.
Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, won initial approval Dec. 16 - only after a lengthy debate and contingent on a rash of future paperwork - to build twin railings on the front steps of their Louisburg Square mansion. To bolster their case, the Kerrys laid out everything from the type of metal used for the railing, its color, where exactly it'll be attached and just how many screws will be used.
City Hall was abuzz with the Kerrys' somewhat stealth application for the complicated home fix-it, particularly given the senator's past run-ins with the board and city over his home. Colleen Meagher, a city preservation planner who works for the commission, said the commission reviews ``any exterior architectural alteration that is visible from a public way.''
The Kerrys, who came under fire for having a fire hydrant removed after they moved to Beacon Hill, have won past approvals for a new decorative iron balcony, a new front porch light and hidden door phone and a stoop replacement, records show. Among the board's denials are a 1995 bid by the Kerrys to extend a balcony across the house. In 1997, they were cited for a ``visible'' satellite dish on the roof, records show.
The Kerrys applied for the new railings after their housekeeper sprained her ankle, sources said.
A Kerry spokeswoman said of the flap:``Winter's here and this was a common-sense precaution for the icy months. The requisite steps were taken to ensure the handrail meets the city's guidelines.''
LOL! So far, so tame here.
;-)
The anti war scam went a long way here and it lifted this ahole all the way to the Senate.
Dan Mathews irony: "He left his blood on the highway, not at the blood bank."
ROFL ...... maybe white raisin ladened Teraayza accompanied John-Jaquestrap Effin Shove It S.O.B Teresa Mamma T Winthrop Simoes-Ferreira Al Qerry-Heinz III to the discussions berating the dear folks on the Architectural Commission --"you people probably haven't had a real job since you've been adults", and they then caved.
;-)
aha!....LOL!
Actually it was Ter-ray-zuh who wanted the hydrant moved. She used to park her white SUV right next to the hydrant and accumulated lots of tickets. BTW her license was something like HNZ57. Maybe some other freeper can remember exactly what the license number was.
Chalk up another huge victory for American liberalism!
What a horrible place to live. I'm so grateful to live in flyover country.
No, it doesn't.
The USSC ruled that the Dean-sponsored bill taking land for the bike path un-Constitutional.
"to build twin railings on the front steps"
Hmmmm? Is this so the gin-soaked raisen "shove it" person can make it up and down the steps ..??
Yes, they should have also installed a thick foam rubber pad for her occasional tumbles. Truth is she's back here in Fox Chapel, north of Pittsburgh most of the time.
Happy New Year!
I'm forced to wonder what the bone of contention was; did the steps originally have only a single rail or did they have no rail at all?
Better the railings than seeing Kerry ("I don't fall down") or Teraaaaayza on her bum every other month!
BTTT!!!!!!!
My son makes his living buidling mostly handrails for new houses; no rail, no occupancy permit.
"Buidling?" Well, you can see I don't make my living typing.
If I had their money I'd buy me an Island somewhere and do as I darned well pleased.
I'll bet when a commode stops up on Beacon Hill, you need permission from the city before you can legally plung on it.
I'm so disappointed in this thread. I saw Kerry and Rail, and thought he's being run out of town on a rail.
Well, better luck next time.
LOL! Thanks for one of the first chuckles of 2005. I really like FR for the humor too.
