Homosexuality is not so different from any other vice. Here's a way to help one understand the homosexual vice if it's seen as extremely abnormal (as it in fact is).

Examine your own vice(s). If you are a glutton for certain foods or alcohol, then use that vice to understand the homosexual vice.

If you have a short temper, then examine your vice of rage to parallel that with the homosexual vice.

If you lust after the opposite sex to sinful obsession(coveting your neighbor's spouse, looking at forbidden fruit, etc.) then this too is similar to the homosexual vice.

Why is homosexuality such a difficult vice to examine for non-homosexuals? I think it's because non-homosexuals try to observe the mechanics of the vice instead of the sinner and the nature of sin.

The first element of abnormal and sinful behavior is disobedience. Whether one uses the Judeo-Christian model of decency or scientific reasoning to examine the purpose of sexuality (the function of male and female reproductive organs), the conclusion is the same. The homosexual lifestyle is perpetuates and recruits people into an attitude of disobedience against reality (and God's design).

I've had a difficult time understanding homosexuality (especially when I became the object of desire by a homosexual). Upon a lot of reflection and prayer, I was able to understand and forgive the one who put me in such a hostile situation. What helped me is my understanding of my own weakness.

If I hadn't examined my own vices and prayerfully asked for God's Graces to fight my weaknesses, I, in self-defence, would have killed the one who assaulted me. Instead, I reflected upon the horrendous state of self-depricating misery that this man was in, and I forgave him.

It's better to bring lost sheep back into the fold. I think it pleases God to do such.

Matthew 6:12 "and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors"

That's the reason that I don't hate them. I actually pity them and if I had a child or friend that was trending that way I would at least get them help from a Christian psychiatrist. I still don't want to associate with them (unless they genuinely want help) or have them around children.
