The Times Square ball isn't the only thing that dropped.
There were 570 murders in the city in 2004 27 fewer than the year before, and 17 less than in 2002, according to police.
"It was the lowest number of homicides since 1963," said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne. That year, 549 people were killed.

Perhaps this represents a silver lining in the dark cloud of abortion,
It may well be, as some have suggested, that millions of potential crack-headed gang-bangers and other shooters disproportionally were aspirated and emptied into drains in hospitals and clinics over the years since Roe vs. Wade...

There's a lot truth to this.

"It may well be, as some have suggested, that millions of potential crack-headed gang-bangers and other shooters disproportionally were aspirated and emptied into drains in hospitals and clinics over the years since Roe vs. Wade..." This is the first I've heard of this theory, but it's an interesting perspective. Do you remember where you read or heard this?

Steve Levitt of the University of Chicago and John Donohue III of Stanford did the study. It made a lot of news when they released it about 5 years ago. Steve Sailer and others poked some pretty good holes in it. Frankly, to be ruthlessly practical, some people simply are not fit to be parents. The old, elitist types like Poppy Bush who were some of the biggest early backers of Planned Parenthood seemed to know this. Norplant should come with transfer payments.

I'll look it up for you. There have been a number of recent publications in the mainstream medical and related literature that contend that such is the case.....
