This is an example of why, as the founders of this country pointed out, self-government is ultimately impossible without the firm support of Christianity and a Christian worldview.
These people have no internal restraints.

But some guy who lives there that was interviewed last night on Fox News said that looting is "below" these people. "It's not in their culture" he said. This was B.S. Trying to say the people in that part of the world are better than everyone else. Unfortunately, there are people in every culture that will do this despicable act!

Looters should be shot on sight.
On a lighter note, I think I've found a new screen name: Thaweewong Wongthong. (Not trying to make light of the situation, just overwhelmed by all this sadness....need something to make me smile a little.)

Golly, this news story can't be true. Since the 1960's rock stars, big-time
movie folks, and genius university professors have told us how much more enlightened
all the cultures of Asia are...compared to us stingy, materialistic 'Muricans.
(end sarcasm ponted at the poohbahs of American media and culture...and kindest wishes
to all the suffering people)

Why are we supposed to be shocked over this? It happens right here in the good ole U.S.A when there is a disaster. People don't automatically turn moral when disaster strikes. Morality takes a change of heart not a change of situation.

On foxnews one of the people who was gushing "reportage" from the scene said that it is not in the Thai culture to loot. I guess theft is ok, though.

This does not surprise me at all. As awful as it is to loot a corpse, the real question is, what happens to these items if they're not taken by someone, like the local authorities and counterparts.
When whole generations of people die in such a situation, who actually ultimately receives the personal effects of the dead? The Government? And when the dead cannot be identified, what then?
All of this is heartbreaking to the core, no matter which way it goes.
It's just plain sad..

I guess Rumsfeld didn't have a plan to control the looting after the tsunami. If John Kerry had been elected he would have shared his "secret plan" to fix this whole thing, but now because of irregularities in Ohio he's cooling his heels on Beacon Hill.
